10 Ways to Ease Into Fall

Somewhere around Labor Day weekend, I start feeling antsy for fall. I’m tired of the Florida heat, humidity and daily thunderstorms. I’m ready for pumpkin everything, a chill in the air, weekend outings to the pumpkin patch and little touches of a new season scattered around the house. Given the pumpkin patches won’t be open for another month and there won’t be a chill in the air until late October here are 10 easy ways to ease into the fall season if the trees around your house are still covered in green leaves:

Research Magazines, Blogs and Pinterest for Fall Inspiration – I’ve had a love affair with magazines ever since I was little. I have three big baskets filled with all of my favorite issues most of them contain post-it notes or have the edges of pages folded down with images I want to remember. Although some are a few years old it makes me excited to look through them again and find inspiration for this year’s theme.

090315-1Start Including Seasonal Recipes in Your Menu Plans – Whether it be crisp apples, pumpkin, squashes, soups or crock pot recipes there are so many different ways to incorporate seasonal foods into your weekly meal plan. These pumpkin pancakes were so good.

Enjoy Fall Scented Candles – There’s nothing like coming home after a long day of work, lighting a fall scented candle and allowing the warm scent of pumpkin spice or marshmallows to fill each room. If candles aren’t an option for you, consider making a simmer pot filled with apples and cinnamon sticks or oranges and cloves.

Bring the Fall Decorations Down From the Attic – It’s always fun to go back through boxes of decorations and discover items I’m excited to use again. If I’ve used something on the mantle one year, I’ll try to repurpose it in say the dining room next year. It always forces me to be both creative and cost conscious from one year to the next.

Collect and Launder Seasonal Blankets – We usually keep our warm blankets on the top shelf of the closet because we don’t use them until late October or early November. Even though you may not need them for snuggling by the fire right away, they can add a pop of color to cozy chairs and comfy couches.

090315-5

Stock up on Baking Spices – I love to bake all year but the oven really gets a work out around the holidays. Start stocking up on spices and nuts now so you’ll have everything at the ready when it’s time to start making pies, cookies and yummy cakes.

090315-6

Change Up Your Morning Brew – I love seasonal coffees and coffee creamers. It’s a morning ritual I look forward to every day. I’ll be stocking up on my favorites flavors of coffees, creamers and syrups so I can enjoy hot and cold beverages all season long.

Play Around with Vintage China and Place Settings – Whether you’re entertaining a close friend or hosting a gathering of 21 start putting together place settings now to help lesson the stress of entertaining later.

Spruce Up Your Porch – Pick up fall flowers at your local farmers market, nursery or home improvement store. They’ll help add color to your front porch and throughout your home.

10 Ways to Ease Into Fall

Stock Up on Craft Items – Start using weekly coupons now to stock up on craft supply items. That way, you’ll have everything you need to craft all season long.

Bonus Tip – Start cleaning out your closets and drawers this month.  I know some of you had quite a bit of school shopping to do this year. Donate gently used items your kids have outgrown instead of fighting to keep the shirts that don’t fit anymore in the drawers. Your family will enjoy putting away the laundry so much more. Ok, so maybe enjoy is a stretch but it will make things easier.

Many blessings,

CoCo

What you are doing is what I am doing in Dallas TX this week as it will be 100 (still) this weekend. WE need no blankets or jackets until at least November. But I decorate for autumn & Halloween now anyway. I do see my 3 red oak trees in my front yard are starting to drop small acorns, & that signals ‘fall is coming’ to me. I love all your terrific ideas! Happy fall!

    1. Mary, your red oak trees sound so beautiful. I can’t believe it’s still 100 in Texas but after having lived in El Paso, I can totally appreciate your heat 🙂 I’ve been working to add some fall touches to the house and I saw mums at the store for the first time this weekend. I know we have a little bit longer to go but I am definitely ready for a new season. Thanks so much for your comment and Happy Fall to you too! CoCo
