2017 Home Goals

Remember yesterday when I shared my 2017 Word of the Year? We also make home goals each year too. We used to make a long list of the various projects around the house we wanted to complete. It was sort of like a running to-do list that never seemed to shorten despite working late nights and long weekends. We could physically see the progress we were making on each task but sometimes we just needed a big picture reminder of where we were going, you know what I mean?

We started keeping private Pinterest boards as a visual cue for the direction each project was headed and it definitely helped but the biggest difference was when we started making virtual design boards for each space. It really changed everything because you can instantly see if the ideas, textures, paint colors and finishes you have in your head will actually work together in your space before you even make a single purchase. It not only helped to keep us motivated but it also helped to keep us on track when we felt stuck in the midst of decision making. In fact, I recommend anyone starting a project big or small use this same technique.

As always, we have a list of lofty goals for the year. Here’s a look at our 2017 Home Goals…

Master Bedroom – this room is one that has needed to be addressed for a while and I’m so excited that we’re making it a priority this year. This is how it currently looks…not bad at all but totally plain…

Master Bathroom – this space already has good bones it just needs to be polished up a little bit.

Much of the decisions in the master bathroom will be determined on the outcome of the bedroom…

Home Office  – yes, it’s completely unconventional to have 2 offices in one home but that the season of life we’re in right now. This is the office in its current state. I know. I can’t even talk about it.

But hold on because it has the potential to look like this….

The office is definitely going to be really tricky given the layout of the room but we’re up for the challenge.

Back Patio – the front porch gets a lot of decorating love but the back patio is where all of the parties take place.

We’re hoping to make this space more accommodating this year with just a few changes.

I know! It’s a lot but I think we can do it!

Working on your home goals is just like working on your other goals so consider these simple steps. Once you have the goals written down, work to get a game plan together. Talk about your budget in advance to keep the surprises to a minimum. Once you have these pieces in place, give yourself a timeline and break the tasks down into reasonable steps based on your schedule and the schedule of your team. What you may think takes 5 mins may take someone else 40 mins, right S? Also, if you’re on a limited budget take the time to shop around to get exactly the look that you want even if it takes you extra time. In the long run, you’ll be happier that you didn’t settle!

See you guys back here tomorrow. Do you have “be more organized” on your personal goals list this year? If so, I’ve got you covered! I’ll share a list of organizing essentials I couldn’t live without. Until then, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo

    1. I was having the same problem, Sarah! Creating boards like this for each project/space/idea will help you sort out what looks best for your house vs what looks best on Pinterest 🙂
