Annie Sloan Chalk Painted 3-Drawer Nightstand in Country Grey

If you read yesterdays post I mentioned my mom and sister helped me find two pieces of furniture a few weekends ago. One was a buffet I painted in Annie Sloan’s French Linen and added a wash of Country Grey. The other was a three-drawer nightstand.

I really liked the style and the wood grain already. Honestly, I thought several times about just putting it into the booth “as is.” It was in fantastic condition and even on wheels. Hello, bonus! But like I’ve said many times before the reality is that it takes almost double the time for an unpainted piece of furniture in my booth to sell as it does a painted piece. And if ever there was a determining factor that was it.

Since I already had the base of a white wash at the ready to finish the buffet, I decided to use the same color on this three-drawer nightstand. It doesn’t always happen but it can be a time saver if you’re able to paint multiple pieces of furniture at once especially if you’re using the same color or something in the same color family. I thickened the wash to the consistency of pancake batter as opposed to that of crepe batter and got to work.

Over and over again, I used multiple coats of very thin layers of chalk paint by working the paint into the wood with my brush.

I did not wipe away the excess as can be typical with a white wash.

This is the result of all of those layers after it was dry.

It took a bit of time and there were definitely points where I thought, “I totally messed this nightstand up” especially because I don’t normally embrace the sight of so many brushstrokes. But in the end it was the variations of the paint layers that made me love it even more.

I used 220-grit sandpaper with a light touch and by light I mean be very careful. You have to remember the paint is thin so you don’t want to sand too hard and rub all of the layers off. I used a clear paste wax to seal.

And just like that another piece of furniture has been finished and delivered to the booth. It’s been a wild week of painting. See you back here tomorrow for another sea glass inspired dresser.
