A Birthday Brunch to Celebrate Mom

As I write this (January 14), the house is finally quiet after a whirlwind birthday brunch to celebrate my mom. I’m surrounded by beautiful roses, a pile of dishes, a tiny plastic horse and strict instructions to please leave the gel stickers in the window panes so Santa will come back next year. No you did not miss said gel stickers on the holiday home tour this year, those Christmas stickers were happily pulled out of the bottom of the craft box today.

Family life, right? It’s been a really good day.

I started the morning at 2:42 am. I don’t know if I was so excited to host everyone that I couldn’t sleep or if I thought I had so many last minute details to handle I needed to get up and get the day started. Either way, my eyes were so puffy from lack of sleep I was wearing a gel mask mere moments before my sisters came to help bring our, “Eat, Drink and Celebrate Mary” birthday brunch vision to life. Nothing like setting the table looking like Cat Woman he he. We pulled it off though thanks to a lot of helping hands. Here’s a peek at the highlights…

My mom is such a giving person we knew we wanted every detail to make her feel special. Her favorite meal of the day is breakfast so our menu was fairly easy to plan: Belgian Waffles with Salted Caramel Syrup, Spinach Quiche, Breakfast Crostini, Hashbrown Casserole, Yogurt and Granola Bar, Assorted Cheese Plate, Fresh Fruit, Smoked Sausage, Bacon, Coffee, Milk and Peach Bellinis.

A cozy fog hung over our back patio as we enjoyed the birthday brunch. At first, I was worried it was going to rain but as the fog lingered it created a wintery atmosphere.

We decided we would celebrate my Mom’s signature style which is fairly monochromatic save for a statement necklace, bracelet stack or glittering shoes when we chose the decorations for the table.

We also wanted the tablescape and all of the place settings to have a vintage vibe filled with roses, tarnished silver trophies, rustic pinecones, velvet and antique brooches for the girls. The boys had glittery deer at their place settings.

We had a blast toasting our mom, laughing for hours and listening to her favorite music. Rod Stewart’s “Maggie” was on replay throughout the morning and afternoon. We had so much fun!

After we finished brunch, we lingered over birthday cake and sparklers. At first, I could not decide what I wanted to do for her birthday cake especially since we had so many sweet things on the menu. But then I remembered how she would let us have a sweet treat on Saturday mornings when we were all little in the form of cream horns and little white donuts.

As the afternoon was winding down, we brought my mom into the dining room where we had tucked branches from around the property into the chandelier. Hanging from those branches were enough white tags to represent each year of her birthday with messages of all the things we like, love and appreciate about my mom.

It was so much fun to watch her read through all of the messages.

We ended the day with presents, hugs and the promise of a milestone birthday year filled with lots of family adventures.

Not 5 minutes after my sister pulled out of the driveway, I got a text saying how much fun everyone had at the birthday brunch. Attached was this photo that pretty much sums up the day. Those powder white lips get me every time.

See you guys back here tomorrow. I’ll share how we created the easiest breakfast birthday cake ever. Until then, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,
