How to Make Your Own Hot Chocolate Mix

The most amazing cup of hot chocolate I’ve ever had was in Chicago a few years ago. It was bone chilling cold and I’ll never forget that cup of velvety goodness. It was just the right amount of rich chocolate mixed with warm buttery milk. Like dessert in a mug.

I’ve been on the search for a good cup of cocoa ever since. If your schedule is anything like mine you’re trying to find a balance this year between silent night and merry and bright. The season is tons of fun but it can also be a lot of hustle too. I ran Christmas present errands in 4 stores and bought groceries in another and it took up my whole day. It was crazy.

By the time I got home, I decided I needed to take 15 minutes to relax and unwind before making dinner. I know I say this a lot because it’s something I’m always working on…we need to give ourselves a little bit of grace and take minute to slow down…especially this season when the expectations can be overwhelming.

This hot chocolate recipe is something that can be enjoyed all season long. It’s easy to make as a gift for your family, friends, neighbors or coworkers. You’ll need the following ingredients to make your own mix…

1 bag (9 oz) dry milk
1 cup non dairy creamy chocolate coffee creamer
1 cup powdered sugar
¾ cup quality cocoa powder

In a large mixing bowl add ingredients one at a time…dry milk

non dairy chocolate coffee creamer (the French vanilla is good too)

121115-2

powdered sugar

and finally the cocoa.

121115-4

Mix together with a whisk until fully incorporated.

121115-5

Finally, add to a food safe container with a lid that can be sealed.

I bought this one at Walmart for about $2.99.

121115-7

Embellish with a favorite day, ornament, ribbon or gift tag.

You can also top with marshmallows, peppermints, cinnamon sticks or add an adult beverage. Just make sure you do these things in moderation and never drink and drive.

This mixture will keep up to 3 months if you store it in a tightly sealed jar. I usually add hot water (use caution) and about 4 tablespoons of the homemade hot chocolate mix depending on the size mug I have. I can’t believe there are only 13 shopping days until Christmas!

I hope you guys all have a happy and relaxing weekend. See you on Facebook, on Instagram and on Pinterest over the weekend and back here on Monday for the Something to Talk About Link Party!

Many blessings,

CoCo

Speak to me, Mary Beth, I know you’re a #girlboss too which means we have to sneak in every little moment of comfort and joy we possibly can 🙂 I’ve never had a Mexican hot chocolate but it sounds really good. It’s on my list to try tonight. Thank you for the suggestion. I hope your weekend is a happy one. Hugs, CoCo

  2. This looks delicious! We love a great mug of rich hot chocolate and can’t wait to give this a try. We don’t think our jar will need to be stored for three months, because it will all be gone by then! Thanks for sharing!
