How to Make a Simple Valentine’s Gift Container

Today, we’re sharing how to make a simple Valentine’s Gift Container!

I know Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about romance, love, friendship, and all that good stuff. But I’m hoping there’s some room for practical Valentine gifts as well.

Truthfully, the old I get the more I appreciate multi-purpose gifts and I know so many of you do too!

This Simple Valentine’s Gift Container is really easy to make and is another gift idea that can be filled and customized specifically for your special Valentine.

Here’s a look at how you can make a simple Valentine’s gift container too….

Simple Valentine’s Gift Container Supplies:

• Small Box (we used a metal one but a heavy cardboard photo stock box would work well too)
• Spray Paint (we used Rustoleum’s Flat White)
• Mask & Tarp (to use while spray painting)
• Heavy Glitter Cardstock
• Stencils or Cookie Cutters
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Glue or Tape
• Something to line the gift container like colorful shredded paper, parchment paper, wallpaper, or your favorite fabric
• Goodies to fill Valentine’s gift container

Simple Valentine’s Gift Container Steps:

Gather your supplies and lay a tarp down to protect your work surface. Make sure your gift container is clean and free from dirt and debris.

I found this tin at the thrift store for $1.50 a few years ago. The tin is actually a reproduction and has been made to look old but really isn’t very old at all.

If you plan to do make a simple Valentine’s container, it’s important you keep two things in mind: one you need a clean container, and two you need good quality spray paint.

If you’re new to spray painting, it’s better to use multiple thin coats of spray paint allowing plenty of drying time in between than one thick and heavy coat.

This is after two coats of spray paint, waiting 30 minutes between each coat and no primer.

Once the simple Valentine’s gift container has completely dried, you can decide how you want to decorate your container.

I chose gold glitter paper and a heart shape. But you can also do something farmhouse-inspired, use your anniversary dates or your family’s monogram.

If you don’t have a stencil on hand you can also trace the shape of a cookie cutter or a pancake mold.

Turn the glitter paper over and trace around the shape. Then using caution and care, as scissors will be sharp, cut out the shape of your choice.

Attach the shape to the lid of the simple Valentine’s tin using your glue of choice or a good quality tape.

Make sure the glue or tape you’re using is appropriate for the container’s material (i.e., paper vs metal vs wood or plastic).

Line the tin with parchment paper or a cloth napkin

then fill the simple Valentine gift container with special goodies.

You can create a movie night container and place a gift card for dinner inside the recipients favorite DVD jacket,

create a container with heart-shaped bath bombs, essential oils, and other bathtime treats,

or consider filling the Valentine gift container with a fun lunch to take to the beach, on a hike, to the lake, or park.

A Purpose Filled and Practical Gift Idea…

After your Valentine has finished with the contents of this simple gift, they can continue to use the container to store love letters, movie and concert tickets, special photos, invitations, jewelry, and other treasures collected throughout the year.

Basically, it will become a love inspired time capsule!
