Patriotic Inspiration: Coastal Flag

This coastal flag project was one of my favorites from last year. It was simple and easy to make. I bought of piece of old fencing at a local antique mall.

I used interior latex paint we had leftover from past home improvement projects around the house in

Valspar’s Atlantic Gray (pale blue color) in place of the red stripes,

Valspar’s Fleecy (white) for the white stripes,

and Behr’s Rejuvenate (pale green color) in place of the navy background where the stars will be placed. I watered all of the colors down quite a bit. I wanted the wood in the fencing to have a white washed and weathered feel.

I bought 2 packs of starfish from a local craft store and spray painted them in flat white. Once they had dried I hot glued each star to the fencing.

One of the best features of this project is that it can be completed in an afternoon if you decide to make your own. You can leave it up all year at your beach cottage or use it to celebrate Independence Day in coastal style.
