Do you guys have spring fever yet? I miss my extra hour of rest already but I am really looking forward to spring. I’m ready to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, relax in the hammock while reading a magazine and sip lemonade from a homemade lemonade bar.
We have a lot of plans for the outside areas. We want to create an alcove in the front to house a breakfast table and make the back patio area more efficient. We eat outside a lot and we can’t wait to make the entire outdoor space feel more like an extension of our indoor living spaces.
We’ve researched the best plants for our zone and sketched out a few drawings of our plans but it wasn’t until we visited Hollis Gardens our ideas really came together. It doesn’t matter if it’s still snowing outside your window this morning or if it was 80 degrees yesterday but 35 today there’s definitely inspiration in the way these flowers have been happily paired together.
I’m looking forward to having a vegetable garden again this year. Our tomatoes didn’t make at all last year. I think it was just too hot. I love the way this vegetable garden is an extension of the flower gardens though.
Right now we have native scrub bushes around our trees but I love the way they have these beautiful pink and white flowers around their trees.
I would have never thought to put this combination of silver, royal blue and green together but it’s really pretty.
Don’t you love the way they varied all the different plant heights? It’s like layers and layers of loveliness.
Because we have really sandy soil, we’re going to have to implement the idea of container gardens along side flower boarders too.
How amazing is this water feature?
I don’t know if you guys saw the grass in some of those shots but wow, it’s like carpet. We don’t have grass like that at all but we do have some really great ideas about how to implement some of the things we found at Hollis Gardens that day. We’re hoping to clear out the vegetable garden beds soon, create more container gardens and begin work on the back patio area too. It’s a lot of work so we’ll have to take it in sections but I’m really excited to get started.
