Holiday Blog Series: Make at Home White Ornaments
I live on three acres surrounded by lots of trees mostly left undeveloped for native species of birds and our resident gopher turtles Ted and Trixie. There’s nothing like the feeling of looking out at the marsh, as I’m crossing over the bridge on my way home.
It’s because of my love for the outdoors that I try to decorate with natural elements whenever I can. I needed a way to jazz up the entry and I decided to make a few white ornaments for the tree. And by tree I mean sticks that I gathered from the yard, painted white and stuck in a vintage champagne bucket.
Since my heart speaks in neturals I knew these make at home ornaments had to be white. I mixed ¾ cup baking soda and ¾ cup of cornstarch in a medium bowl and stirred with a whisk.
Next I added ¾ cup warm water. Mix well, as the consistency will be that of pancake batter.
Then pour the contents into a skillet. Place on medium heat. Stirring occasionally. You really have to watch this part closely so your dough doesn’t burn.
When the dough begins to bubble and pull away from the sides of the skillet, continue to stir as dough begins to thicken. Remove from heat, set aside in skillet and allow to cool.
Once cooled, place on parchment or wax paper.
Break off a small piece of dough roll it out flat,
and use cookie cutters
to cut out the desired shape.
I used the end of a straw to make the holes in the top of the ornaments
and these embellishments from my craft supplies.
Place on a wire rack and allow to dry for a full 24 hours.
Hang and enjoy.
These ornaments will be somewhat fragile so as always with things that are this pretty, handle with care.

Coco, WOW, I’ve never made dough ornaments and you so clever in making them yourself and embellishing them with glitter and bling. I LOVE the way they turned out and I think a few might go perfectly on my neutral tree so make sure they go in the Cali box….lol.
