Three Drawer Dresser Makeover
We’re back with another project from Loblolly, a European Oak inspired Three Drawer Dresser Makeover!
I don’t know about you but whenever I feel the need to make my house feel fresh, I start moving furniture around.
We do that at Loblolly too!
Unfortunately, more times than not we literally move the furniture right back to its original spot. But my Mom and I are both very visual and sometimes you just have to try it so you can see it, you know?
From the Entry to the Breakfast Nook…
Several years ago, I brought home this three-drawer dresser to use in our entry. It stayed there for a while until I decided to sand down the top and use it in our breakfast nook.
The wooden casters are still intact and even though it’s chippy in some places and dinged up in others, it really brought a farmhouse feel to our breakfast nook.
But once we started working to finish my childhood home, Loblolly, we realized very quickly we were going to need some budget-friendly pieces of furniture.
Pieces that could easily transition from room to room and provide extra storage as needed.
Since the three-drawer dresser had worked so well in my home, I decided to try it at Loblolly too.
While I can’t say it’s a perfect fit, it has been a staple in the entry for over 5 years now.
Creating a French Country Feel…
Truth be told my Mom wants to make the entry area a library and turn the dining room into the living room, we just haven’t been able to get my Dad on board yet.
So, while we’re waiting we’ve decided to keep the three-drawer dresser in place.
My Mom loved everything about the dresser except for the top. It was just too dark for her French Country loving heart.
And she asked if I could create the look of European Oak on the top of the three-drawer dresser.
I’ve used a similar technique many times in the past and even though I knew it might be a tall order, it was a fun challenge.
Here’s a look at how we created a European Oak Inspired Three Drawer Dresser…
Three Drawer Dresser Supplies:
- Valspar Paint in Faint Maple
- Paintbrush
- Dark Furniture Paste Wax
- Paste Wax Application Brush
- Sanding Block
- Tarp
Three Drawer Dresser Steps:
Gather your supplies and lay a tarp down to protect your floor and work surface.
Apply two coats of Faint Maple paint to the top of your three-drawer dresser. Be sure to allow plenty of drying time between each coat.
This piece was already a creamy shade of white when I brought it home so I left the original color intact.
Once the Faint Maple is completely dry, use a wax brush to apply dark furniture paste wax over the Faint Maple.
As the wax becomes tacky, lightly sand the top of your three-drawer dresser.
Remember not to press too hard or you might run the risk of taking off some of the wax. You can see the section where I rubbed just a bit too much and had to reapply.
Next, allow the wax to completely cure as per the instructions on your can of wax.
After the wax has completely cured, style as you wish and enjoy!

First – I LOVE that Eastlake Victorian dresser. When you said it still has its original casters – my heart about flipped. Your Mom is going to love this makeover – I can tell. Oh and yes – I always have to move furniture around too – because sometimes you surprise yourself.
