Bedroom Makeover

We were so excited about the transformation in the bathroom we decided to give the bedroom a makeover too. Unfortunately, this space was just as neglected as the bathroom. Sure it got a new coat of paint in 2013,

but my mom pretty much summed it up as soon as she walked in the door. “What’s with the no one lives here look?” I couldn’t have said it better myself. We searched the house for a little inspiration and found these natural history bird posters. You may remember I previously used them for the spring dining room.

To give them a fresh look, my dad split an old tobacco stick in half, stapled the poster to the back of the sticks and then helped me hang them with a piece of jute.

We hung up the bird posters above each nightstand and it immediately made a huge difference. We placed a gourd, books, water pitcher, drinking glass and vintage lamp on one nighstand

and a piece of salvage, set of books and the matching vintage lamp on the other nightstand. Ironically, I haven’t found any Edison style bulbs that will fit the lamps yet but I’m hoping to order some soon.

The bedding is layered with pet friendly white, which means muddy paw prints are no problem. I have plans to add striped bedding from IKEA in here too.

I wanted to keep things as simple as possible so the dresser is accessorized with a vintage globe I picked up at a local thrift store, mason jars found at a yard sale and a basket of cotton picked up on a trip to the cabin.

The overstuffed chair is something I could donate tomorrow but I totally lost the battle on this one. It’s hard to argue with “it’s so comfortable…I use it every day…how could you not love this chair…” you get the idea. Draping both the chair and the ottoman were the best compromise I could come up with but I’m hoping in time there will be a chance to create a lounge inspired seating area. The room is plenty big enough to make that happen. I have to admit Jelly Bean does look really comfortable.

Beside the chair we paired a trophy stein with wild flowers from the yard, favorite books, dragonfly lamp and wooden shore bird. All of these items sit on a vintage game table. The chippy frame in the background was used on the spring inspired mantel. One of my aunts picked it up for me in my hometown last year.

I bleached the canvas drop cloth curtains, washed and dried them last week. My dad installed two curtain rods in the bedroom and hung them up while he was here visiting. We had a long list for him but he was a really good sport about it all.

I still need to find a rug for this room but I’m going to take my time finding one. It feels so nice to give attention to this space. It’s definitely feels like a retreat space to relax after long day of work.

    1. Thanks so much! I love them too and I thought finding the Edison style bulbs would be so easy but so far we haven’t been able to find any that will fit. I didn’t think to look on Amazon but will check it out for sure. Thanks for the great suggestion! CoCo
