In Search of a Rug

There is only one thing I find more frustrating than shopping for jeans or a bathing suit and that’s shopping for a rug. Most of the rugs in this house have been moved around more times than I can count. Take for example my favorite rug in the house. I found it at a charity shop and with a under $50 price tag I decided to take the chance I could get the old lady smell out. It took multiple days of shampooing and cleaning. The rug spent hours upon hours outside, soaking up baking soda and the warm summer sun. But it was worth all of the effort. The rug first made an appearance in my office.

And then it found a home in my living room last fall.

Decorating with Rugs

There was plenty of space in the living room for this charity shop rug given the sisal rug that had been in the living room was relocated to the dining room last summer.

The rug that was in the dining room was then relocated to the breakfast area. We bought this one at Pier 1 almost 5 years ago. I hardly ever think about changing it, which is how I know it was a good decision.

I finally settled on a rug for the entryway.

But that one wasn’t always there either. The rug that’s now in the laundry room used to be there.

Almost a month ago I bought this rug at IKEA for the half bath. It’s a little scratchy underfoot but for $4.99 I couldn’t pass it up. Besides, you can always walk on it with sequined slippers like I do.

Even the front porch area is decked out with rugs.

You may be thinking, wow Coco this stroll down memory lane with your rugs has been totally fascinating but what’s your point? My point is that even with all of these great rugs, I’m still on the hunt for a few more but it’s going at snails pace.

We’re hoping to put hardwood floors in this bedroom, which means this space will need a rug.

As will this bedroom because it’s about to undergo a total makeover.

The kitchen will be finished soon too and it will need a rug.

And let’s not forget that empty space that’s still under my office desk.

I have a few ideas of what I’m looking for but I just haven’t found anything worth taking the plunge on yet. I know I need at least 2 rugs that are 8 x 10 and a long runner for the kitchen. Most of the rugs I have now are a natural weave but I do have my eye on two that have a bohemian vibe. We’ll see how it goes.

Do you have any advice or tips that would help make my search for a rug easier? I’d love to hear it.

I hope you have a great weekend. See you back here on Monday for our Something to Talk About Link Party and over the weekend on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo

  1. CoCo – you always have a way of speaking to my design dilemma heart. Honestly, a rug can make or break your room design – I have had this problem so many times. It is definitely a hard decision to make. On a different note – I would love a pair of Snoozies 🙂

  2. I know I am always attracted to the “now” rugs but then keep thinking it will look dated so soon. I would recommend keeping the price low if you buy a somewhat trendy rug. If you are going for a classic (like your great thrift store find) you can stretch the budget much further because it will stand the test of time. Right now I’m attracted to classic styled rugs in fresh colors. Think oriental inspired in bright or airy colors. But, I think my pendulum is swinging back from neutral to color. By the way, all your rooms look so beautiful! Love how you have your laundry room set up.
