Blue and White Twin Bedroom Refresh

Today, we’re sharing the blue and white twin bedroom refresh at Bliss Barracks!

If you’ve had a chance to follow along on the makeovers at my parent’s home Bliss Barracks, you likely saw the blue and white guest bedroom refresh that started it all.

Creating the Blue and White Twin Bedroom Refresh…

Finishing that space really felt like the breakthrough my Mom needed to fully be able to commit to her vision of changing the home’s traditional red, green, brown and cream color palette to a blue, white and green one.

There’s a suite of bedrooms upstairs at Bliss Barracks and once we completed the guest bedroom makeover, we immediately decided to start working on the twin bedroom refresh.

A New Rug…

This was the bedroom my Mom liked the most, so there wasn’t a lot to do in the space to be perfectly honest.  That said, she kept feeling like something was “off”, but she couldn’t articulate exactly what it was.

Once we were both standing in the twin bedroom together, it was a lot easier to troubleshoot what was “off.”

For one thing, the rug was just too small, but it was also an easy fix.

See how much better it looks with a larger rug? One that has a more calmer color palette and fills in the gap between the twin beds?

Affordable Wall Art…

Another easy fix was the artwork above the headboards.  One of the twin beds has a window above it and the other has a big blank space.

It didn’t look horrible before, but it definitely looks a lot better now that the space has been filled in with a piece of wall art.

Edit, Edit, Edit…

Speaking of filled in, the top of the dresser was styled with some of my Mom favorite finds.  They were all great items they were just a bit too low for the height of the twin bedroom’s ceiling and the dresser’s mirror.

Our solution to this situation was to declutter the number of items on the top of the dresser and add two lamps on either side making the twin bedroom refresh more functional too.

A Fresh Desk Area…

The last simple fix we worked on was changing the seating area and adding a pop of color to the blue and white twin bedroom refresh.

This seating area was snuggled off to the side between the walk-in closet door and the bathroom door.

Again, it wasn’t horrible at all but as you can see all the furniture is dark like in the rest of the room, so it felt matchy-matchy.

The other thing is that this collection of items left about 4 foot of blank wall space and didn’t do anything in the way of drawing your eye up to the over 9-foot-tall ceilings.

Trading out the small seating area for a large secretary with a desk not only helped to add height but also help to make the space more functional.

Blue and White Linens…

As far as the linens on the beds go, my Mom was still happy with them, so we kept them all.

Both the linens and the pillows are a fun mix from Pottery Barn, Tuesday Morning and Target.

Decorating with Antique Finds…

All the antique and vintage treasures on the shelf stayed the same as well ?

I think sometimes, we think we have to change a lot of things in order to make a space feel refreshed no matter what the season.  But the truth is, a room makeover can be completed with a few key investment pieces.

The biggest investments we made for the blue and white twin bedroom refresh at Bliss Barracks was purchasing a new rug, wall art and paint for the secretary.

This time of year, is a great time of year to be thinking about tweaking those areas of your home you want to revitalize or reinvigorate.

So, start searching for inspiration, commit to a style and color palette that makes you happy. Then start shopping your home or your favorite stores and make it happen.

There’s no time like the present!

Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo
