Budget Friendly Side Table Makeover

We’re sharing a budget friendly side table makeover today!

Now is the perfect time to knock out those quick and easy ideas that will help give the spaces in your home a fresh feel without committing to a big makeover.

I usually save all my big makeover ideas for summertime when it’s too hot and humid to be outside painting in Florida.

One of the projects that’s been at the top of my list was finding a budget friendly side table for the chair in the living room.

So, I set about hunting thrift stores and antique malls.

But I couldn’t find anything in the size or shape I needed.

Finally, I decided to check Amazon to see if they had any budget friendly side tables and after a few minutes of searching I found exactly what I needed.

The only problem was that the table was a mahogany color.

But I knew that could easily be fixed with a little paint.

Here’s a look at how we created a cozy little reading nook with a budget friendly side table…

  • Side Table (we found this one on Amazon)
  • Paint (color of your choice, we used gray)
  • Fine Grit Sandpaper (we used 220)
  • Primer
  • Clear Topcoat

Budget Friendly Side Table Makeover:

  • Put the budget friendly side table together as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Depending on the finish, your table will likely need something to hold onto. Especially, if it has a slick factory finish like this one. So, we used a fine grit sandpaper to give the table some “tooth.”
  • Next, we primed the table and allowed it to dry completely.
  • Then we painted the table with gray paint and allowed it to dry for 24 hours.
  • Once the paint was dry, we added a clear topcoat and allowed another 24 hours for it to dry.

Save for waiting for the budget friendly side table to dry, the process came together so much quicker than I thought it would.

In fact, it was one of those, “Why did I wait so long to do this?” kind moments.

Keep in mind, you’ll need to take proper measurements before ordering your side table.

We took into account the diameter of the tabletop as well as the height of both the table and the chair.

After all, you’ll want to make the transition from the chair to side table as seemless as possible no matter if you’re reading, journaling or sipping something cozy.

As always, it’s best to use a coaster or a saucer to protect the painted surface of your budget friendly side table.

While I still plan to keep my eye out for an antique side table, I’m excited our cozy reading corner is now fully functional and we finally have a place to put our coffee or tea when we’re snuggled up with a good book.
