French Linen Painted Dresser

If you read my post yesterday, you already know we’re on a tight decorating budget for Loblolly Manor. In order to save money, we decided to reuse as many pieces of furniture as possible even if that meant bringing multiple pieces of furniture from my parent’s primary residence.

This set used to be in my bedroom. It was in good shape but the espresso stain didn’t meet the “light and airy look” my mom was going for. I knew we could change the color with a little bit of paint and new hardware. As you can see the lines of the dresser are pretty modern.

Check out the hardware. Totally modern.

While the home is warm and welcoming, the actual size is fairly small. In order to give it a cohesive feel throughout, my mom chose a color palate of whites, grays and pops of pale turquoise. We almost painted this dresser in Pure White. But one coat in and she changed her mind.

Two coats of French Linen later, she was much happier. Keep in mind the paint color can change depending on the time of day.

I added clear furniture paste wax and a bit of distressing. My mom chose these glass knobs that were on sale at Hobby Lobby for 50% off.

082015-5Believe it or not, I didn’t paint this mirror. It was a gift from a fellow teacher to my mom almost 25 years ago. She’s been holding onto it all this time!

My mom found these sconces for an amazing price at a thrift store recently so we decided to let them be the star of the show. I’ll get a better picture of it for you soon. The crystals are amazing. Things are really starting to take shape in the master bedroom. It’s so exciting.
