DIY Ice Skate Wreath

Today, we’re excited to show you how to create this quick and easy DIY Ice Skate Wreath as we partner with some of our favorite bloggers to share Christmas Porches and Holiday Door Décor. A special thank you to Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home for hosting this blog hop.

If you’re coming over from County Road 407 welcome, we’re so glad you’re here. Didn’t you love Cindy’s porch? I’m telling you she is always so creative!

Dressing up the porches for the holidays is something we look forward to every year.

I know a lot of people have decorating the tree, the living room and the mantel as their top priority and they’re definitely important. But there’s just something about decorating the porches first that makes me so excited to decorate the rest of the house.

After all, your front door and porch décor easily build excitement and set the tone for what’s to come once you’re inside the house, right?

If you’re thinking that decorating your front door has to be super time-consuming, don’t sweat it! A holiday wreath doesn’t have to be fancy to feel festive at all!

In fact, the DIY ice skate wreath I’m going to share with you today is so quick and easy it will literally dress up your front porch or back patio in minutes.

Are you ready to get started? Good, me too!

Quick & Easy DIY Ice Skate Wreath Supplies:

  • Wreath
  • Ice Skates (we used junior size skates size 3)
  • Ribbon (for the ice skate laces, optional)
  • Medium Size Ribbon (for the bow, optional)
  • Wreath hook

Quick & Easy DIY Ice Skate Wreath Steps:

Fluff Your Wreath

We picked this wreath up at Joann Fabrics several years ago. You can find wreaths similar to this one at thrift stores, charity shops, and estate sales if you need a budget-friendly option.

When you’re fluffing the wreath, you’ll want to make it look as full as possible. Once you’re finished, set the wreath aside.

Replace the Ice Skate Laces with Ribbon

Ok, now this step is totally optional but restringing the ice skate laces with ribbon is one of those small details that make such a pretty difference.

I picked this ribbon up from Michaels on sale. It helps to tie in the decorations on the porches with decorations on the inside of the house.

Tie the Ribbon Laces Together

Keep in mind, when you’re tying the laces together, you’ll want one skate to be up higher than the other.

Hang the Fluffed Wreath

We have a metal wreath hanger already attached to our front door. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to use an over-the-door wreath hanger to hang up your fluffed wreath.

Skates are heavy so make sure you have a wreath hanger that’s sturdy and can support the weight.

Hang the Ice Skates

Depending on how big your wreath is, this next step could be a little tight, but it can definitely be done.

Hang the ice skates on the same wreath holder you have your wreath on placing the ice skates just slightly underneath the wreath.

Position the Ice Skates and Fluff the Wreath Again, If Needed

It’s possible a couple of your wreath branches or picks might have gone awry during the hanging process, so fluff it again if you need to.

Add a Bow or Embellishments, if Desired

I found one spool of this dusty pink ribbon at a thrift store over the summer for $1.99. It literally inspired our entire holiday home this year.

Given the rest of the wreath has eucalyptus leaves and pinecones, I decided not to add anything other than ribbon. You can dress it up or down with additional greenery picks though if you like.

Enjoy

I mean, you guys, could this wreath be any easier!

No playing, it took me longer to drive to town and pick up the supplies than it did to make this DIY ice skate wreath.
