Quick and Easy Ways to Use Doilies

We’re sharing quick and easy ways to use doilies as we team up with the fabulous ladies of the Handcrafted Society today.

Whenever I think about doilies, I’m almost immediately transported back to my Granny’s house.

She loved things that were handmade and crochet.

While learning how to crochet is on my list of things to learn, I’ll freely admit I don’t have as much time to spend on crafts and hobbies as I used to.

That said, I like to include something homemade or semihomemade when I’m welcoming friends and family into my home, for someone that needs a little pick me up or when putting together seasonal gift ideas.

So, I wanted to share two quick and easy ways to use doilies when creating simple gift baskets.

Quick and Easy Ways to Use Doilies Steps

Crafting Cones from Paper Doilies:

Nearly every time I put a gift basket together, I like to include cones made from paper doilies.

They’re super simple to make and you can fill them with a variety of treats and goodies.

For this basket, I made one cone with dried lavender and one with bath salts.

First, create a cone from a paper doily.

Then secure it in place with a piece of double-sided tape or glue.

Once your cone is made, fill an organza treat bag with dried lavender.

Make sure the drawstrings are tight, so the lavender does not fall out of the bag.

Then place the lavender filled bag inside the cone.

Add a ribbon and a tag, if desired.

What I love about these small organza bags is that you can fill them with so many different things from lavender to candy to little gifts.

Truly, the possibilities are endless!

Wrapping Gifts with Doilies:

Another really easy idea, is to wrap small gifts with an antique, vintage or handmade doilies.

All you have to do is place a small box inside the doily, then fold it over like a taco.

Next, add a ribbon or two to help secure the box in place and you’re ready to gift.

Creating a Tea and Bath Themed Gift Basket

Most of the gift baskets I put together are for people I know well.

For this basket, I decided to continue the vintage and lavender theme to create a tea and bath basket.

So, I’m using these vintage snack plates and teacups sourced from an antique store,

a tin of tea,

chocolates from the grocery store,

the cones I made from paper doilies and filled with dried lavender and lavender infused bath salts,

a gift wrapped in the vintage crochet doily,

and a handmade dried flowers card.

I know this time of year, can be a busy one.

But it’s also a super simple way to add a homemade or semihomemade touch to gift giving.

Especially, when crafting paper cones from doilies because they can be filled with so many different treats.

Save for gathering all the supplies, materials and gifts, it look around 15 minutes to create this tea and bath themed gift basket which feels like an easy win.

So, find someone special to spoil today!

  9. How genius CoCo! I love the cones with a bit of lavender. But lacing one around a gift is too adorable. You won’t believe the collection of crocheted, doilies, dresser scarves and more that I had to let go (for quarters) when we downsized. I kept one box. Oh, how I wish I had used them all to wrap gifts in and share with friends and neighbors instead.

I also loved the way you added the ribbon to the doily holding the soap, genius! Hope you are doing well, and thank you for all of the wonderful ideas!
