Floating Candles for Spooky Season

If you’ve had the pleasure of watching any of the Harry Potter movies, you likely remember the scenes from the Great Hall with what feels like hundreds of lit candles floating above the tables.

It’s one of those iconic scenes that feel magical the minute you see it.

Given Spooky Season is such a big deal in our family, I’ve always wanted to use the floating candles to help create an enchanting atmosphere at our house too.

So, I found the candles on Amazon, and they couldn’t have been easier to use.

Here’s a look at how to create the Great Hall inspired magic with floating candles for Spooky Season.

Floating Candles Supplies:

  • Floating Candle Kits (we purchased ours from Amazon)
  • Batteries (*not* included in our candle kit)
  • Clear Monofilament Wire (included in our candle kit)
  • Ceiling Stickers (included in our candle kit)
  • Ladder
  • Ladder Spotter (safety first, plus it’s great to have a second set of eyes)

Floating Candle Steps:

Before you begin make sure to read the instructions that come with your floating candle kits.

Especially, given the instructions might come with warnings and other things to note like ours did.

First determine the desired length you want your candles to hang and where you want them to go.

Keep in mind, you’ll want to use all different lengths of clear fishing wire.

So, use caution and care as scissors will be sharp.

Next, remove the flame head.

Then thread the cut fishing line through the hole in the flame head, allowing for extra length.

Reinstall the candle flame head and press down on the fishing line.

Secure the other end of the fishing line to the hole in the hook.

Next, unscrew the base of the candle and insert a battery.

Once the battery has been inserted and is secure, screw the base of the candle back on.

Finally, remove the protective film from the adhesive and hang onto your desired surface.

If your floating candle kit comes with a wand, make sure the wand has batteries.

Then safely dim or turn off the lights in the surrounding rooms and try this simple “spell”…

“With a wave of my wand and a cheerful shout, let the floating candles glow and magic come about!”

Oh, my word, talk about excitement.

I’ve always loved fairy lights and candles, but this takes Spooky Season to a whole new level.

Honestly, I’m going to have a hard time taking them down at Christmas because they’ve been so festive.

Anyway, I just wanted to share in case you wanted to add these floating candles to your celebration too.

They really do add an extra special touch.

PS: I’ll update this post, after we take the candles down to let you know if we had to touch up the ceiling. As always, use caution and care.
