Hanging an Antique Style Floor Mirror on the Closet Door
We’re sharing our experience hanging an antique-style floor mirror on the closet door today!
One of the things I’ve always wanted but haven’t owned until now is a full-length mirror.
Don’t get me wrong, we have plenty of mirrors in the house over the dressers and vanities.
You can basically only see from the waist up, though.
And given we live in an open-concept home, wall space for a floor-length mirror is really limited.
Not to mention, the closet where I need a floor-length mirror most is TINY.
That said, one of my big goals this year is to build a seasonless capsule wardrobe.
And as I learn how to mix and match pieces with confidence, I’ve realized it’s hard to get “the full effect,” as my aunts say, without a full-length mirror.
One day, while I was searching for organizing supplies, I found the prettiest antique-style floor mirror at Five Below.
To my complete surprise, it worked, even with my limited space.
So, I wanted to share the simple steps I used to hang this antique-style floor mirror on the back of the closet door in case you’re limited on space too.

Hanging an Antique Style Floor Mirror on the Closet Door…
Supplies:
- Lightweight Antique Style Floor Mirror
- Rub n Buff, optional (I used Antique Gold)
- Dark Paste Wax, optional
- Brush to Apply the Rub n Buff
- Wax Cloth or Brush to Apply the Paste Wax
- Command Strips 20 lb. XL Heavy Weight Strips
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Cleaning Cloth
- Pencil
Steps:
Gather your supplies.
This mirror had a shiny gold finish when I bought it from Five Below.
It was also scratched a little in some places.

Because I have another true antique mirror in the bedroom, I decided to add a layer of Antique Gold Rub n Buff to the trim of the mirror.

Then I followed with a layer of dark paste wax.
That way, they would complement each other without being too matchy-matchy.

The color was not a drastic change.
Here’s a look at the gold before the Rub n Buff and dark wax:

And after…
It simply took a bit of the shiny newness out of the original finish, which I personally prefer.
If you like the color of gold the mirror comes in, feel free to skip the extra steps.

Once the edges of your mirror have dried and cured, read the instructions on the back of your Command Strips package.
Next, wipe the back of your door with rubbing alcohol as per the Command Strip package instructions.
Determine where you want the antique-style mirror to go.
Using caution and care, lay your mirror down on a soft surface.
Then apply the Command Strips onto the mirror as per the instructions on the package.
Finally, wait for an hour for the strip adhesion to build.
Again, using caution and care, align the strips.
Then press the frame of the mirror into the strips until each pair clicks.

Things to Keep in Mind…
Keep in mind, you’ll need to use a lightweight mirror that weighs less than 20 pounds, as that is what the XL Command Strips will hold, according to the package instructions.
In addition, it’s important to remain mindful of the mirror on the back of your closet door.
Avoid slamming or forcefully closing the door, as it could compromise the integrity of the adhesion.
Another thing to consider is the type of door you plan to hang your mirror.
This six-panel door is solid wood.
While this antique-style mirror is a recent addition, it’s already made getting dressed so much easier.
Not only do I love putting together outfits now, but I can genuinely see what looks good and what needs a little tweaking.
So, if you’ve been putting off giving your closet a hint of glam, consider this budget-friendly idea.
