How a Weighted Vest Changed My Walking Routine

We’re sharing 5 ways wearing a weighted vest helped change (and improve) my walking routine.

This spring I started walking with a weighted vest.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t feel much of a difference at first save for a few days of sore knees.

When summer came it was so hot and humid outside it didn’t feel safe to continue.

So, I took a short break.

Now that it’s cooled off a bit, I’ve started using the weighted vest again.

And this time, I can feel a difference.

Talking To Your Doctor…

As always, it’s best to talk to your doctor before adding a weighted vest to your routine.

We all have different healthcare goals, medical needs and abilities.

So, be sure to seek the advice of a licensed medical professional and healthcare provider.

I’m not a doctor and this post should not be seen as a replacement for medical advice.

I’m simply sharing my personal experience and the benefits I’ve discovered since using a weighted vest.

In addition to speaking with my doctor, I also found this post from UCLA Health, Should You Walk With a Weighted Vest, helpful.

Making Time for a Walking Routine

Walking is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay active and it’s an essential part of my day.

I used to have a love/hate relationship with working out until I started walking.

Now, I can’t imagine starting my day without it.

But it wasn’t until this year that I discovered wearing a weighted vest could boost the benefits of walking.

So, I wanted to share how it’s made a difference in case you’re curious too.

Here’s a look at my journey to stronger walks and how a weighted vest helped improve my walking routine.

5 Ways Wearing a Weighted Vest Helped Improve My Walking Routine…

Increase Calorie Burn

Wearing a weighted vest increases the intensity of your walk, which means you burn more calories.

The added weight all but forced my body to work harder, helping me shed extra pounds and reach my fitness goals at a slow and steady pace.

Cardiovascular Health

With my body working harder, it also felt like my heart and lungs got a better workout.

I’m hoping this will lead to improved cardiovascular endurance and overall heart health, making walks even more beneficial.

Strengthening Muscles and Bones

The extra resistance from a weighted vest can help build muscle strength, especially in your legs, core, and back.

It took a bit, but over time, I feel like my muscles adapted to the increased workload, becoming stronger and more toned.

Improved Posture and Balance

I still catch myself when it comes to slouching, but I can tell a difference since I’ve been adding this vest to my routine.

As mentioned above, wearing a weighted vest regularly can strengthen your legs and core, which are vital for balance.

Your core supports your body during movement and helps you maintain proper posture.

While I’m still a big fan of yoga, it’s been nice to see the added benefits of wearing a weighted vest when it comes to posture and balance benefits.

Especially, as I get older.

Weighted Vests Are Convenient and Customizable

Another thing I love about weighted vests is that they come in different sizes and weights, allowing you to choose one that fits your comfort level and fitness needs.

You can start light and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger and more confident.

I simply started wearing the vest at first.

Then I increased the weights by two pounds little by little and gradually worked my way up.

All in all, I’m excited about the results I’ve noticed since adding a weighted vest to my walking routine.

I leave the vest beside the rest of my workout gear so I can put everything on at the same time each morning.

It seems like a small habit stack but having everything together has helped me stay more consistent.

Have you tried a weighted vest? I’d love to hear about your experience.
