DIY Fall Sweater Vase

We’re sharing how to make a DIY Fall Sweater Vase as we team up with some of our favorite ladies from the Handcrafted Society.

This month, our theme is sweaters or shoes.

And at first, I didn’t think I had anything to share.

Then I started working on our Fall Decluttering Challenge and realized I had a few sweaters that no longer fit.

Most of them were gently used and able to be donated.

There was one that had a hole in it so I knew I needed to find a way to repurpose it somehow.

That’s when I thought about how popular sweater vases have become over the years.

They’re such an easy way to add a cozy touch to your favorite spaces during the fall and winter seasons.

And while I’ve seen them all across the internet, I’ve never tried to make one myself.

Here’s a look at how to make a Fall sweater vase.

As well as different ways you can style or gift this idea.

Fall Sweater Vase Supplies:

  • Sweater
  • Fabric Cutting Scissors
  • Hot Glue or Fabric Glue
  • Vase (I used a tall clear glass vase I found at the Dollar Store a few years ago)
  • Faux Floral Picks
  • Ribbon, optional

Fall Sweater Vase Steps:

Lay out your sweater.

As I shared above, this is an old cable knit sweater I already had on hand.

You can find styles just like this at thrift stores and charity shops too.

Then using caution and care as scissors will be sharp, cut the sleeve of your sweater.

I cut mine at the top of the sleeve around the seam where you would put your arm in.

Turn your sleeve inside out.

Next create a cuff, then secure the cuff in place with glue.

Once the glue has dried, turn the sleeve rightside in.

Again, using caution and care, carefully slip your vase into the sleeve.

If you have extra fabric, you can scrunch it up for a more cozy feel.

Finally, add seasonal flowers or faux floral picks.

And a ribbon or bow if you like.

Creating a Seasonal Gift Basket…

What I love about this DIY Fall sweater vase is not only how easy it is to make but how simple it is to gift too.

I placed the sweater vase in a vintage bottle basket then added a seasonal magazine, ground coffee and a mug.

Having the extra slots would also make it easy to add other things like a pumpkin scrub, jar of homemade soup or even a festive no bake dessert.

A Falloween Idea…

For those of you who are bridging the gap with Falloween or already decorating for Halloween, consider adding a festive spider clip to your DIY Fall sweater vase.

Then adding seasonal floral picks or spooky tree branches.

Seasonal Decorating…

Always remember, seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be super involved unless you want it to be!

Sometimes all it takes is a few things sprinkled around the most commonly used areas of your house to make things feel festive.

So, if you’re short on time or low on motivation this year, look for simple ways you can add special touches to help celebrate the season.
