One of my favorite memories with my sisters happened a few years ago. My middle sister hosted a Kentucky Derby Party that everyone still talks about. We searched for months to find just the right hat and outfit. As soon as I saw the roses in full bloom right outside my office window this morning I started thinking about how that event inspired my Kentucky Derby Inspired Mantle.
Does anyone else feel like Easter snuck up on them this year? In the midst of running around to find new inventory, painting multiple pieces of furniture, restocking the booth with fresh finds and taking necessary counsel from my tax advisor, I’ve almost forgotten to prepare for one of the most important seasons of the year.
: I never thought the day I decided to take pictures of my spring inspired porch would be the same day it would turn cold again after a week of 80-degree weather. I also didn’t expect it to be raining for the third day in a row. Truth be told, I almost posted something other than my spring inspired porch. But there is something about the rain washing away the pollen and giving the earth a fresh drink that makes it feel like spring is here to stay no matter what the weather.
It’s sad to say but right before my very eyes in my own flowerbeds were flowers in bloom already that I had overlooked because they weren’t on my “dream garden list.” The tiny white flowers on this Bridal-Wreath Bush became the inspiration for my spring kitchen table.
It’s in the seemingly ordinary mundane tasks we do everyday that creates the compilation of our memories. And since we have to do these things each day anyway, I want to take the time to enjoy those ordinary tasks as much as I can. It took about 10 minutes to set up. That’s all. 10 minutes to create a simple spring outdoor tablescape made from just another ordinary moment.
After months of struggling to find the time to get these projects finished, I am so excited this day is finally here. It’s an absolute gift to be able to express your creativity in any given space but when it came to the kitchen which was not my domain, there were a few requests: the maple cabinets could not be painted, there had to be a kitchen herb garden and finally there has to be as much open space for cooking and prep work as possible. Is that a challenge I hear?
There is only one thing I find more frustrating than shopping for jeans or a bathing suit and that’s shopping for a rug. Most of the rugs in this house have been moved around more times than I can count.
With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I could not imagine a more fitting post than this one with wife, mother, author and friend Kimberly Clair. She helped me celebrate Valentine’s Day last year and since it was such a big hit, I asked her if she would come back for an update and she said yes!
After we moved the bakers rack to create an indoor coffee station, it left the entire area totally bare. I hung up a vintage chalkboard, gave a mini makeover to the Suwannee Sugar Cane Farm sign and the chair at the desk in the kitchen. In one afternoon I was able to complete 3 quick decorative updates in the kitchen and the only thing it cost me was my time.
Have you ever brought home a piece of furniture and in the store you loved it but once you got it home it just didn’t work in the space the way you thought it would? That’s what happened to me with this bakers rack. I was almost ready to give up until I decided to use it as an indoor coffee station.
As soon as November hits, I’m ready for cold weather. I’m ready to sit by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate after creating the perfect holiday concoction from my hot drink bar.
My Granny used to make me one each year. They’re really bright and colorful. I wanted to find a way to these ornaments in a fresh way and decided to use them in a tablescape specifically created for the littles.
