Easy Equestrian Style at Home
We’re sharing easy equestrian style at home today!
When I think about equestrian style, Ralph Lauren and my Mom immediately come to mind.
Not only has Ralph Lauren created an iconic and global brand, but he’s also been able to effortlessly thread the needle between Western equestrian style and traditional English or European equestrian style which has been fascinating to watch.
My Mom’s love for Ralph Lauren is deep.
And despite living in 13 different homes growing up, I can’t remember a single one of them that didn’t include a nod to Ralph Lauren or a touch of easy equestrian style.
So, with that in mind, I wanted to share tips and tricks for easy equestrian style in case you want to incorporate a few simple touches in your home too.
Lean Into a Color Palette That Supports Your Home and Surroundings
One of the easiest ways to incorporate easy equestrian style into your home is by leaning into your home’s existing color palette and surroundings.
My aunt lives on a horse farm with lots of windows.
She likes to keep things fairly neutral by choosing a color palette of black, red, and camel so her property (and horses) can be the stars of the show.
My Mom on the other hand lives in a gated golf community on the Intracoastal.
She loves blue and white.
So, she chose to incorporate easy equestrian style using those colors.
There’s really no right or wrong so don’t be afraid to think outside the box and decorate with what you love.
Even if your style is inspired by the brightly colored silks of your favorite jockey!
Highlight Traditional and Antique Furniture Pieces
Easy equestrian style is a beautiful balance of elegance meets unfussy classic comfort.
It can be rustic, and at the same time, it can be refined.
Estate sales are a great place to find traditional and antique pieces of furniture that have a story.
Incorporate Easy Equestrian Style into Your Home with Art
Estate sales are also a great way to incorporate easy equestrian style into your home with wall art.
Especially, if you can score an original painting.
No worries, if not though.
There are plenty of places online to find equestrian art from Etsy, to Amazon, to Great Big Canvas.
Just be sure to have them professionally framed.
They’ll look more polished that way!
Add Equestrian Style Accessories
Another really easy way to add equestrian style to your home is through accessories.
Antique stores, estate sales, charity shops and outdoor vintage events are a budget friendly way to shop for these pieces.
Here are a few things to look for:
- Horse bits
- Stirrups
- Polo mallets
- Polo balls
- Horse bookends
- A family crest or seal
- Napkin rings
- Pillows
- Antique boot forms or boots
- Vintage riding helmets
- Horse books
- Hunting dogs
- Horse trophies and ribbons
- Doorstops
- Door knockers
Don’t Forget About Fabric
Equestrian style is truly all about the details so don’t forget to incorporate a fabulous fabric into the mix.
It’s another inexpensive way to add equestrian elegance to your home.
This includes:
- Plaids and tartans
- Leather
- Velvet
- Fur
- Wool
Vintage and Antique Place Settings
Horse themed vintage and antique place settings are not always easy to find but they’re worth buying if you spot them.
Most people would probably only use plates with horses on them during the Fall and Winter seasons.
They can actually be used throughout the year though.
Especially during Derby, Triple Crown events, and polo parties.
As well as Trooping the Color and Royal Ascot events.
Don’t Overdo It…
Finally, one of the hardest things about adding equestrian or any other style to your home is not overdoing it.
Goodness, restraint can be tough especially when you really love something, you know?
The thing is, when you start having horse items in every single room it can look themed instead of elegantly layered.
So, use some restraint and leave room for your favorite pieces to shine.
I hope these tips and tricks for easy equestrian style at home have helped.

CoCo, such fun ideas here. The only thing I can think of that we have is a wooden stirrup. It was my mother-in-law’s, and we use it on the table as a holder for our fabric napkins. We do have lots of vintage books, so I could add some books underneath the stirrup. It’s such a cool shape, and to know that my MIL used it makes it even more special. Thanks for the inspiration–as always!
I enjoyed your tips on how to incorporate equestrian style into a home! I think these could be used for any type of “collection. ” Thanks for the reminder to “not overdo,” which can be hard when you’re collecting something you love!
I love this! I’m sharing it with my mom. She has always loved horses and has several “horse items” in her house. She will enjoy this.
Such a fun post, CoCo!!
You really touched on every equestrian theme and it all looks so pretty together..I do love a good tartan plaid 🙂 Great tips, friend!!
Great ideas. I love equestrian style and Ralph Lauren. Hugs to you.
So many clever ideas CoCo.
I always get so excited when you share equestrian style posts CoCo. I am such a fan, and I have to admit, I also think of Ralph Lauren. I like paisleys with this style, but never really considered blue and white, but you know? It just works! I am so glad you pointed that out. I felt like you were speaking to me when you said to show some restraint, I tend to go overboard when I love something. I always admire equestrian style, but have never made the leap to incorporate it into our home. I blame that on the fact, I never seem to come across it when I am out and about. Here’s to hoping I come across a few pieces in the future so I can add a few special touches here and there.
