Fall Inspired Living Room and Mantel
Today, we’re sharing tips on how you can easily focus on 3 key areas to create a Fall Inspired Living Room and Mantel in no time!
Have you ever looked at your living room excited and ready to start decorating for the upcoming season, but then had no idea where to start?
I used to feel that way too.
I know so many people dread decorating the living room, especially the mantel, because they’re overwhelmed with the process. Honestly, decorating the mantel for Fall is one of the easiest ways to add a festive and seasonal feel to your home because it’s usually the area that catches your eye most as soon as you walk into the living room.
While it might feel like the living room is almost too big to decorate, if you break it down into a few key zones it can be really simple. I have no doubt, you can totally do this!
Here are a few tips on how to create a fall inspired living room and mantel that can help…
Tip #1: Determine Your Color Palette and Start Gathering Materials
If you have no idea where to start decorating the living room find a piece of seasonal fabric you love and go from there. Keep in mind, the color palette you choose should complement the rest of your home not compete with it.
Fabric is a super simple way to help you determine which colors and color combinations you should be targeting. For example, this piece of fabric tells me I should be highlighting items that have pale grays, soft browns, burnt oranges and creamy whites.
Tip #2: Focus on the Mantel First
Your mantel is likely the key feature of your living room so once you’ve determined your color palette, decorate your mantel first.
I personally love symmetry, so I usually visually divide the mantel into thirds. I start by decorating the center, then the left third and repeat those same elements on the right third.
If you don’t know what to put in the center of your mantel, consider using a large piece of art, a seasonal sign or a Fall wreath. Make sure you add layers of texture and vary the heights of the accessories you’re using to add interest on the mantel as well.
Tip #3: Decorate Your Coffee & End Table
Decorating your coffee and end tables for Fall can seem a bit tricky but they certainly don’t have to be, I promise.
Use a tray to keep books, accessories, flowers, fillers and foliage corralled so you can easily remove the tray when you want to put your feet up for family game night, to watch movies or to cozy up by the fire.
Again, you’re simply repeating the colors from your color palette, using a few of the same seasonal elements you created on your Fall inspired mantel (in our case pumpkins, gourds, foliage) and adding layers of texture and height.
Tip #4: Add Seasonal Pillows & Throws to Your Living Room
Changing out every day pillows in your living room for seasonal pillows is a quick and easy way to add pops of color and texture to couches and chairs. You guys, this step takes minutes to do!
Search local boutiques, online or at big box stores for seasonal pillows or pillow covers you love if you need to save space or head to your local fabric store and make a few new pillows of your own. Most of the Fall inspired fabrics are on sale right now.
I know it might seem like creating a Fall inspired living room and mantel can be overwhelming, but you guys are totally capable of doing this! Just remember to break it down and focus on the 3 key areas mentioned above (the mantel, the coffee and end tables, and seasonal pillows) and you can create a cozy, welcoming room you’re proud of in no time.
I hope these tips on creating a Fall inspired living room and mantel have helped! It doesn’t matter if you’re decorating for the seasons or for everyday life, buy what speaks to YOU most.
Believe me, you don’t have buy what is popular or trending right now because in the end, it’s all about what makes you happy and works best for your family.

I’m loving everything you’ve done here, CoCo! The soft color theme, the height and textures, and the beautiful simplicity…just perfect.
I’ve been bringing bits and pieces upstairs a little at a time. If I bring everything I have up from the storage room at once, I will use it all!!! lol!
