Feel Good Friday #9 – Blessings Tree

I was telling my Mom the other day how excited I was that Christmas is coming. Maybe it was the day I spent relaxing, reading magazines and watching movies but I am in full holiday mode. We’re making Christmas shopping lists, finalizing decorations, confirming the Christmas Eve dinner menu and filling up our calendars with fun events. I’m really looking forward to it.

I think I’m excited about Christmas because I won’t be seeing my family for Thanksgiving. We’ll be in four different cities come Thanksgiving Day. Maybe some of you are in the same boat. Maybe you have a loved one that has already passed on, maybe your spouse is based overseas, maybe you’ve hit a rough patch and you can’t afford the plane ticket home. Whatever the reason, I have way we can celebrate our loved ones. We can include them on our blessings tree.

What is a blessings tree you say? On January 1st we begin to write down every time something good happens to us.  It can be anything from “I got an A on my test” to “I got a promotion at work”.  We use card stock or tags purchased from a local craft supply store and we put them in a blessings box.

Sometimes we have a blessings breakfast and we read aloud each card and reminisce about the experience. Other times we decorate an entire blessings tree. We gather sticks from the yard, place them in a container and hang the tags from each branch.

It’s a great way to remember not only the amazing things that have happened over the past year but also to remember the people that are important in our lives. And that my friends, is a reason to feel good this Friday!

Many blessings,

CoCo
