From the Front Porch

Happy Thursday from the front porch you guys. How was your week?

Can you believe we’re almost to Labor Day? I know, we can’t either. Do you have any plans for the long weekend? Now is a great time to confirm your Labor Day plans (September 3rd in the US) if you haven’t already. I swear it seems like everything picks up the minute Labor Day is over.

This week has without a doubt been a bit less dramatic than last week which is a blessing. We continue to nurse our sweet Filbie back to health. At this time last week, he had not eaten for 5 days and we were having to spoon feed him chicken broth. He could not walk so we had to carry all 43 pounds of him in and out of the house multiple times a day. He was throwing up, dehydrated and lethargic. It was so sad. There were a few nights I thought we were going to lose him to be honest.

He continues to be under a vet’s care as we try to figure out his medication issues and to better diagnose his medical issues too. He’ll be on this round of meds for another week and then we’ll see what the next step needs to be. He’s been eating small meals a few times a day and he can mostly walk on his own now too which is huge. He does stumble and lose his balance sometimes and walks sideways. The best way to describe it is that he looks like he has had a stroke. His vet’s have been able to rule everything out save for a thyroid issue or a brain tumor so we’re hopeful they’ll be able to give us something more definitive soon.

For now, we’re going to love on him as long as we can and keep making the best decisions we can make for our sweet cupcake.

Scenes from our week…Given we can’t leave Filbie unattended for any length of time, I’ve been working from home again this week so we’re kicking it Scenes from our week – around our property – nature style!

Late Summer is rainy season in Florida and some of the storms have been kind of spooky when they roll in.

In fact, lightning struck one of the biggest trees on our property. These marks literally go all the way up the trunk!

One of our friends helped us cut down a tree over the summer and took extra care to leave Truman’s home intact which kind of looks like an entrance to a secret garden now. At present there are 5 gopher tortoises living on our property which feels like a win for this protected Florida species. I just stumbled upon this friendly plant list and I can’t wait to start planting now.

These are popping up all over our yard and they’re so pretty.

Quote of the week & Free Printable…

Reading this week…

I’ve been combing through old magazines searching for Fall inspiration while enjoying a bit of Pumpkin Pie Spiced creamer in my coffee each morning. I know it’s still hot outside but after not being able to have much of a Fall season last year because of all the hurricanes, I’m getting really excited about Fall now.

Watching this week…

We’ve tried to keep the noise and stimulation to a minimum for our sweet Filbie again this week. The vet said it will help to calm him, so he will be less disoriented. I haven’t had a chance to listen to a lot of podcasts, but we did watch The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society one night after he had fallen asleep and it’s really good.

I hope you all have a peace filled and happy weekend. We have a great week coming up next week. In my haste to finish the entry, I accidentally painted the top portion of the wall in an eggshell finish and the bottom portion in a satin finish. I know, right? So frustrating!

The silver lining is that it was only half the wall, so I finished prepping the entry walls for the board and batten installation and have been working to paint the entry bench too. I need to finalize the bench cushion and the pillows for that space. I’m in a weird dilemma…fall pillows or everyday pillows with fall accents? I can’t decide which to use right now to be honest.

Whatever you have planned I hope it’s something you’re excited about too. I can’t wait to see you back here on Monday.  Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo
