Habits for Purposeful Living Challenge: Week Two Recap

We’re sharing our habits for purposeful living challenge week two recap today.

If you’re new to this challenge, you can catch up on our week one recap here and why we decided to start a habits for purposeful living challenge here.

This week our focus has been on mindset.

And over the years, I’ve realized changing your actions without changing your mindset is like trying to steer a ship without an engine or a rudder.

Sure, you’ll move with the current and the tides but eventually you’re going to get stuck.

That’s why actively shifting your mindset to the identity of the person you’re trying to become is more important than trying to stay motivated.

Because once you change the way you see yourself, your actions and behavior will naturally follow.

And ultimately, it’s those consistent actions and behaviors that will make your motivation more sustainable.

So, remember to renew your mind, align your actions with your words and use tools that will help reinforce the identity you’re actively trying to create.

For they will help provide the biggest impact for lasting change.

Here’s a Look at our Habits for Purposeful Living Challenge Week Two Recap…

Week Two: Goal

The goal of the second week was to simply become more aware of our mindset, address any negative self-talk, and to develop healthy soundtracks.

What Worked Well This Week?

Mom – Having a certain time to get up every morning and setting my mood and purpose for the day has really helped me stay focused.

CoCo – I typically practice affirmations in the morning and meditations in the evening as part of my daily routines.

This week though, I added an extra meditation session to my lunch hour and it was really nice.

I also tried mirror work this week.

To be perfectly honest, it felt a little woo woo and hokey at first.

But by the end of the week, it started to feel a lot less awkward and the quick pep talks helped.

What Did Not Work Well This Week?

Mom – We have so many random thoughts going through our minds. It’s amazing how quickly a negative thought slips in. While being aware of them helped me to be more intentional I definitely need to keep taking negative thoughts captive so I can keep a positive mindset front and center.

CoCo – I had way more negative self-talk than I thought I did!

What Surprised You Most About This Week?

Mom – How much smoother my week goes and how much more I get accomplished since we’ve started this challenge. When you get consistent with your days everything becomes so much easier.

CoCo – How different things felt on the weekend when our schedule was not as structured as our weekday routines.

It made me realize these habits for purposeful living are something you have to keep up even on the weekends.

That way, they feel like a true lifestyle change instead of a to do list you’re trying to cross off Monday through Friday.

What Did You Choose From the Weekly Habits Menu?

Mom – Bought a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store and a little crown that brought me joy for Loblolly, had lunch with two of my girlfriends, went to the nursery with your Dad and had breakfast with your sisters.

CoCo – Had lunch at a cafe I haven’t been to in a while, a picnic on the beach, celebrated national burrito day, meal prepped, got a haircut, interviewed two new service providers to help me reach my health and wellness goals, took something big off my plate and added weight to my weighted vest.

What We’re Listening to This Week?

Mom – Christian meditation, music from the 70s, The School of Self Image Podcast, and Jillz Guerin on YouTube

CoCo – Melody Gardot, Norah Jones and Music Journey to France on YouTube

What We Ate This Week:

Mom – I tried to have more protein and fiber this week.

CoCo – We kind of fell off the veggie wagon this week because I didn’t make the grocery list or cook anything after catching the oven on fire last week. Lots of quick and easy meals without a lot of green so we definitely need to do better next week.

What We’re Looking Forward to Next Week:

Mom – I have been trying to do more self care things and I need to bump it up even more. I also want to think of new experiences to try.

CoCo – Next week is self care week so I’m looking forward to finding simple ways to pamper myself after hectic work days.

Things to Keep in Mind…

Mindset work is an open invitation to become more aware of your best self no matter if you’re giving a presentation in the boardroom or giving your girlfriends a pep talk at lunch.

It’s a vital part of our daily lives because it affects what we believe about ourselves, how we deal with stress and how we face life’s challenges.

Mindset shapes the way we think, feel, and act in any given situation.

So, choose your thoughts carefully and be aware of the stories you’re telling yourself.

For they create your reality.

As always, we hope this post has helped.

Let us know if you’re also doing the habits for purposeful living challenge so we can cheer you on.

Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo
