ORC Progress Update: Week Five
You guys, you guys, you guys…this One Room Challenge (ORC) hosted by Linda of Calling it Home is making me feel like the Mayor of Crazy Town! We have entered the phase of totally exhausted meets totally excited and things are getting so, so, so…real. Behind the scenes: the house is a gigantic mess. We have lost all track of time. We’ve eaten take out almost every meal save for Easter Sunday so the pounds are adding up…oh man, you guys…I can’t even talk about it. I’m running out of concealer for my racoon eyes. I haven’t worked out since the River Run. I’ve worn more paint clothes than regular clothes these past 5 weeks AND I could really use a nap. Honestly, that’s the way things are going, I don’t even know how else to describe it ha ha.
I’m not really sure if I told my mom all of this or if I sounded weepy or grumpy or what on the phone but she asked me to meet her lunch and shopping late last week. For realz, I all but skipped to the car. We made “The Loop” just like the old days before the Pickers Market closed and it was THE best day I’ve had in such a long time. I swear you guys, no one know what you need like your mom does, right? We had breakfast for lunch and loaded both of our cars with vintage and estate sale finds for the bedroom makeover. Here are just a few of the things we picked up…
The $22 desk chair
The $8.00 basket
These bookends still had the Home Goods stickers on them and we were able to score the books for $1.50 each!
This chippy picture frame set us back $3.00 and I’m sure most people overlooked it because it had a picture of a howling wolf in it but that’s the kind of stuff that can be replaced, you know?
I have NO idea who this guy even is but he’s looks totally dapper.
At the time we were shopping we weren’t really sure what to do about bed linens, so we brought home some gorgeous white napkins and tablecloths just in case we needed to make them into a duvet or pillows or something.
We always look for monogrammed linens whenever we’re out because honestly, you really never know what you’re going to find. These “S” napkins were 3 for $1.
One of the biggest requests before the makeover even started was to make the bed feel like a boutique hotel which is right up my mom’s alley. She suggested all these pillows come home with us too…
She also loves decorating with books. These are just a fraction of the books we bought.
I don’t really even know what this metal piece is, do you? It was three parts and $8 and we thought we could use it for flowers. We both loved the patina.
Speaking of patina, we found this concrete piece for a reasonable price too.
This throw is really soft…the fringe…the camel color…the $1.95 tag…whaaaa
And finally, we’re always looking for plant or succulent containers too. We’re over the moon for this trophy style cup.
I know sometimes it’s super easy to get caught up in buying everything new especially when you’re decorating a space and you just want to move things in or freshen everything up quickly. I totally get that. But there is just something about adding layers of cherished old pieces with new favorites that in my humble opinion makes a room come alive. It’s a budget friendly way to shop. You’re helping to save things from the landfill all while adding character to a space. I mean, if that’s not a win-win I don’t know what else is!
Have you guys found anything cool lately? I’m always excited to see/hear what people pick up!
Many blessings,
CoCo
Gah!!! CoCo – y’all hit the mother load of finds. We can’t wait to see how you display them in the room. Can’t believe you actually found the S monogram! Serendipitous for sure!
Thanks so much ladies! We couldn’t believe we found all that great stuff on the same day either. It was definitely a blessing. You guys know that loop is my jam. I could go every single day. One day we gotta all go together. Hugs, CoCo
Love all your finds! Each one was better than the next. You are going to have to share your “loop” with me. 🙂
Nancy
ha ha I love that loop! I try to go each week because you know how it is sometimes they have everything you want and other times it’s slim pickings. We would have so much fun treasure hunting together! Hugs, CoCo
I would love to know where you do your thrifting. I sure don’t find the kinds of things you do (and for those prices) here in and around Charlotte.
Januce, I can totally appreciate this sentiment. Sometimes we go out and find everything on our list and other times we come home empty handed because the prices are outrageous. A good portion of the finds from this post came from an estate sale and they have good prices and goodies if you go the first day. The only draw back is that it’s usually packed so you gotta be ready to grab and go. Hugs and happy hunting, CoCo PS: If you’re ever in Florida in January, February, or November, Renningers has an outdoor Extravaganza and they have tons of treasures!
Great treasures – can’t wait to see them all come together in the final reveal! I think the 3 piece metal container is a type of steamer for veggies or fish, and it will look wonderful as a planter.
I so appreciate your encouragement, Liz! I bet you are right about the metal piece being used for some sort of steamer. You guys are so smart. I never even thought about that ha ha! Sending you hugs, CoCo
Oh how I love all of your new accessories! And that $22 chair! Girl! Really? WHAT a score! Can’t wait to see this room put together. I truly can’t wait. —-and I’ve just written “Go thrift shopping with Coco and her Mom” on my decorating bucket list. See ya next week, sweet friend! XO Susie from The Chelsea Project
You are so funny, Susie, we will totally take you around town any time! I’m definitely excited about the way things are coming together and we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t wait to see how your room comes together too. It’s going to be so fabulous. Sending you hugs, CoCo
Things are looking good!! That metal piece looks like a fish poacher to me. Good luck on your room, so far it is looking wonderful!
Sally that is a fabulous idea! I never even considered it could be a fish poacher. Thanks so much for your sweet comments, hugs, CoCo
i love all of your finds! that bust is awesome- i think it might be teddy roosevelt?
Great finds CoCo! I love that chair and all the vintage linens! And we are all going to survive this, your room will be fantastic!
Thank you so much, Danielle! It’s so exciting that things are finally coming together and coming to an end. I’m ready for a long nap and the biggest bowl of ice cream ever ha ha. Hugs, CoCo
You found so many great things! I’m loving all of the textures you’ve got going on with the throw and the chair! This is going to be gorgeous!
You’re sweet, Dara, thank you! The collecting and shopping and treasure hunting have definitely been my favorite part of this whole process. I’m so excited we’re finally at reveal week. Sending you big hugs, CoCo
I love all the treasures you found! I am always looking for old books and anything with patina.
I love anything with patina too, Jill! They really help to layer a pretty space and make it feel more lived in. I can’t believe we’re on the home stretch after all the ups and downs. I can’t wait to see how your space comes together. I know it’s going to be so fabulous and I am super excited to see it. Hugs, CoCo
WAIT! I want to see the howling wolf! hahahaha! But seriously I am 100% jealous at your amazing thrifting finds. No fair. I have the world’s worst thrift store selection! 🙂 SO excited to see your reveal!
I so appreciate it, Bre! We hardly ever find so many things at once like that but we were totally running out of time to finish the ORC so I’m really glad we did. Let me know if you’re ever in town, I’ll take you on the loop. Big hugs, CoCo
