Quick and Easy Front Porch Topiaries

We’re sharing how to create quick and easy front porch topiaries today!

One of my favorite things about this house is the expansive porch.

When I was in graduate school, I used to flip through magazines and dream of having a farmhouse porch to style one day.

In the beginning, I used to pack as many pots as possible on the porch because I love flowers.

Truly, they make my heart incredibly happy.

But over the years, I realized we were steadily losing our investment.

Sometimes, it was due to hurricane season, the intense Florida heat, or traveling to the cabin or to care for loved ones.

Other times, it showed up in vet bills because our sweet rescue Piper would march out the front door ready to protect us and inevitably get stung, thanks to my knack for attracting the wrong kind of insects.

Once we decided to refresh our front porch, though, I started thinking of budget-friendly ways to incorporate flowers.

And to my complete surprise, when one of my girlfriends suggested faux flowers to help protect Piper, I was open to it.

Here’s a look at how we created quick and easy front porch topiaries.

Quick and Easy Front Porch Topiaries Steps:

We bought these urns at Joanns several years ago, and looking back, I wish we’d bought a set for the back patio too.

They’re really deep, so I filled the base with packing materials.

Next, I steamed the boxwood topiaries to help fluff them up a bit.

As always, use caution and care because steamers can heat quickly and you don’t want to burn your fingers or hands.

I steamed the faux morning glories as well.

Once everything had been steamed, I nestled the boxwood pot into the urn.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to decide how you want to secure and weigh these quick and easy front porch topiaries down.

You can use garden soil, kitty litter, rocks, moss, floral foam, or a combination of materials.

Next, arrange the morning glory stems around the base of the boxwood.

Finally, add a few sprigs of lightly colored faux boxwood to the top of the topiary with floral wire to bridge the gap between the dark green of the boxwood and the light green of the morning glory leaves.

It’s a small touch, but it helps visually blend all the different shades of green together.

Answering the Big Questions…

Do These Quick and Easy Front Porch Topiaries Look Fake?

One of the biggest questions I know I’ll get asked is if these quick-and-easy front-porch topiaries look fake.

And the answer is yes, when the sun shines on the leaves, they look plastic.

Also, if you touch these flowers, you’ll be able to tell they’re faux.

That said, from far away, they look perfectly natural.

In fact, you have to be right next to these quick and easy front porch topiaries to tell they’re not real.

Where Can You Use These Flowers?

Obviously, you can use these indoors.

But I’d also consider using the morning glories on porches, patios, lanais, container gardens, balcony gardens and window boxes.

Especially if you like lots of flowers but don’t have time to water them consistently, live in an area with water restrictions or severe weather spells, travel a lot, have a second home or rental property, or you want to stretch your budget over multiple seasons.

How long will these last?

According to the manufacturer’s details, the morning glories are “crafted to be UV-resistant and weatherproof. The flowers won’t fade or wilt easily.”

And the boxwood topiaries are “crafted with durable UV-stabilized plastic that ensures longevity, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.”

I’ve only had these quick and easy front porch topiaries for a few days, so I’ll update this post once I’ve had them longer.

A Budget-Friendly Solution to a Long-Term Problem…

All in all, I’m excited about the way they came together.

Sure, I’ll have to bring them inside during hurricane season and severe thunderstorms.

But I no longer have to worry about watering them while we’re at the cabin, on caregiving duty, or losing my investment altogether because of the extreme heat.

More importantly, I know Piper will be a little safer each time we walk out the front door.
