Today, we’re sharing how to create a simple party favor with these quick and easy patriotic party cones! These party cones and be made in minutes with items that are readily available at big box and craft supply stores. They can also be customized based on your specific color, party theme or whatever holiday you’re celebrating which makes them a win-win in our book!
As I shared with you guys in last week’s From the Front Porch post, my parents recently hosted a Casino Royale event at Bliss Barracks. To be honest, I wasn’t really sure how it was going to go since we literally don’t have a single gambler in our family.
My Dad was confident it would be a big hit though. To his credit, if the laughter and cheering was any indication, it absolutely was a success. At one point I looked at one of my uncles and said, “It legit sounds like a college house party in here!”
After a few hours of playing games and placing our bets, we all met back in the dining room to cash in our chips, share stories and enjoy dessert. My Dad then proceeded to hand out the prizes which were envelopes filled with everything from cash to lottery tickets to gift cards.
The gesture was a generous and thoughtful one. And I was immediately stuck by how excited even the adults were to have a party favor takeaway.
Summer Party Planning
Summer is always a great time to host family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers for seasonal party and events. Of course, you don’t have to go all out like my parents did for Casino Royale but having a simple party favor for your guests goes a long way in helping to make your event a memorable one.
With the 4th of July right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to put together these quick and easy patriotic party cones. These can be created in just minutes with supplies you can find at party stores, craft stores and even big box stores too.
Here’s a look at everything you’ll need to create your own…
Patriotic Party Cone Supplies:
- Party Cones (wicker or paper)
- Glue or Tape (double sided or clear tape to secure the ends if you’re making paper cones)
- Paper Party Filler
- Patriotic Themed Treats
- Ribbon (optional)
- Tissue Paper (optional)
Patriotic Party Cone Steps:
I found these vintage inspired party cones at a charity shop last year. Honestly though, you can this same idea with paper cones, berry baskets, metal buckets or even beach pails.
They were originally pink but I spray painted them white because I wanted to be able to use the cones at various times throughout the year. If you’re using a paper cone or a different kind of container, you’ll obviously skip this step.
If you’re making a patriotic party cone with paper, you’ll want to make sure the edges have been secured with double sided tape or glue. That way, the contents don’t fall out. We’re using white card stock here, but most craft supply stores sell sturdy scrapbook paper with a patriotic theme like flags, stars or stripes.
Once you have your wicker or paper cone assembled, add paper party filler. Depending on the size of your party cone you might even have to stuff a bit of tissue paper in the bottom.
Next, add patriotic or party themed treats and more filler, if desired. We used glow in the dark bracelets, sparklers, short stack glow fuze, flags and of course, candy!
Keep in mind, you’ll absolutely need to make sure you’re placing age appropriate treats into each cone. Children should never be left unattended around flammable items and where adult supervision is required.
If your patriotic party cone is geared more towards your girlfriends, consider adding beads, nail polish, sunnies, a cute scarf, sunscreen, hand lotion, bath bombs or a cute makeup towel. That’s why we love making these party cones so much! You can honestly fill them with whatever theme or color fits your party guests or holiday best.
Bonus, they literally take just a few minutes to make. It took me longer to drive town for supplies than it did to make these patriotic party cones!
We’ll be hosting a movie night event at my sister’s house on Saturday. I’ll be sure to share how we incorporated these patriotic party cones into a fun summer event. It might seem like a really small party detail but I’m excited to see how everyone likes them.
