This Week’s Tip Sheet: Organizing Pets
Welcome to Week 39 of the Simplified and Organized Home Challenge.
This Week is all about keeping our pets organized.
And if yours is anything like ours, you spend a good amount of time picking toys up off the floor and wiping muddy feet.
Given dogs have their own personalities, it takes a bit of trial, error and flexibility to keep them organized.
Now that we’re on our fourth rescue, we’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks along the way.
So, I hope this post helps!

This Week’s Tidy Tip:
When it comes to organizing pet supplies and managing Piper’s care, we use a pretty basic system. You can find more in this post, 8 Tidy Home Tips for Dog Owners.
Here are a few things to consider:
Create a Pet Station
We created a pet station many years ago and it was a total game changer for our family. Having one centralized place for dry food, treats, toys, clothing, and grooming items helped create a home for most of Piper’s needs and in the process saved us so much time. Ours is in the pantry, but you could also use an extra cabinet in your kitchen.
Corral Toys in Baskets and Bins
Keep baskets of toys in multiple rooms. That way, your pets will have multiple opportunities to be entertained. Be sure to put toys away as part of your nightly routine. They can pile up quickly!
Regularly Declutter Toys
Piper is still young and very active, so she goes through a lot of toys. I’m constantly picking them up throughout the day.
While she has her favorites, we rotate between gently used, new toys and puzzles. That way, she doesn’t get bored with the same toys all the time and allows us to mend the ones she’s been hard on and to throw away the toys that are no longer practical.
Create a Daily Game Plan for Baths, Odors and Pet Hair
Piper sheds a lot, so we vacuum every day. We’re also careful to control and eliminate odors as quickly as possible which includes keeping her on a consistent bath schedule.
Keep Pet Wipes and Towels Near Your Front and Back Door
Piper is our third Jack Russell Terrier. If you know anything about that breed, you know they’re constantly digging, hunting and on some sort of an adventure.
Stashing pet wipes and towels in your front and back doors won’t necessarily eliminate muddy messes but it can help reduce the amount of time you’re looking for towels and wipes. Especially, if you have a wet dog in tow.
We also keep them in the car and in the main bathroom as well.
Daily Medication Management
If your pet needs a daily medication, talk to your vet about buying a pill organizer.
That way you can organize your pet’s medication at the same time you organize your medication for the week.
As always, use caution and care so they get mixed up!
Set Reminders
Use smart devices to help remind you of vet appointments, grooming appointments and any medication management needs.
We have Alexa remind us at the first of each month to give Piper her flea and tick medication.
This Week’s Wellness Tip:
Did you know pets are good for your health?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, pets can help relieve stress, maintain routines, create opportunities for social interactions and keep us active.
As always, I hope this week’s Tip Sheet has helped.
