A Martha Stewart Inspired Summer
We’re sharing simple ideas on how to have a Martha Stewart inspired summer today!
Every year, I look forward to having a summer that’s themed.
There’s just something about crafting the season around a group of topics that helps keep me on track.
I chose this theme because it’s the perfect combination of “good things” and “getting things done.”
So, with that in mind, I wanted to share an easy list of ideas of how you can create a Martha Stewart inspired summer too.

A Martha Stewart Inspired Summer…
Spend Time Planning
If you’ve ever taken ideas from our Organizing an Intentional and Purpose Filled Month posts that series was inspired by the calendar that appeared in the Martha Stewart Living magazine.
Planning allows you to make the most of each day.
That way, you can carve out time for housekeeping, house projects, hobbies and entertaining on your own terms.

Tidy Up
If there is one thing you immediately notice about Martha Stewart, it’s that she’s always tidy.
From her appearance to her workspaces to her gardens and home interiors, it truly feels like everything has a place.
Giving everything a “home” not only makes sense it’s also a huge time saver.
After all, according to Martha, “Life is too complicated not to be orderly.”

Learn to Bake or Cook
No matter if you’re an at home chef or a seasoned baker, learning new skills in the kitchen is always a good thing.
And summer is a great time to try something different.
For example, cooking with new ingredients, trying a new recipe, learning a new cooking or baking technique, using a new pot or pan, taking care of your bread boards, baking sheets, copper pots or simply how to clean your stainless-steel appliances.

Plant a Garden
We’ve all seen countless images of Martha in her iconic gardens.
They truly seem to make her happy.
Gardens have a way of teaching us lots of life lessons.
These lessons include trying, failing, experimenting, patience, humility, and abundance.
If you don’t have room for a big garden, consider planting container gardens or an herb garden.

Arrange Beautiful Bouquets
Roses, peonies, hydrangeas, gardenias, stock, and forget me knots are some of my favorite flowers.
They don’t grow well in Florida where the climate is subtropical, and the long rainy season is filled with coastal winds and salty air though.
Like a lot of you, I also have to rely on flowers from the grocery store, the flower market, and my local florist.
So, if you haven’t learned how to properly arrange flowers yet, now is a great time to learn how to make beautiful bouquets even if you’re using grocery store flowers.

DIY to Make Your Home Your Haven
If you’ve watched any of Martha Stewart’s TV shows, read her books or magazines you know she’s an avid DIYer.
From painting floors and walls to embroidering napkins and sewing curtains to making cookies and cakes for the holidays, Martha’s taught us how to customize our surroundings through the power of DIY.
If it’s been a while since you’ve made something your own, this season is the perfect season to learn a new DIY skill or dust off an old one and get creative.

Make Time for Antiquing, Collections and Hobbies
If you’ve ever seen Martha’s homes, you know she enjoys layering pieces for a look that feels collected over time.
Part of those layers include collections of everything from Jadeite and McCoy pottery to copper cookware and bakeware, to gardening books, baskets, shell encrusted pieces, and even Christmas trees.
When you make time for antiquing, collecting and other hobbies like needlepointing or crocheting, you’re also making time to explore history in a way that allows you to layer your home with a sense of wonderment, joy and cherished treasures.

Embrace the Art of Entertaining and Everyday Hosting
When it comes to the art of entertaining, Martha Stewart’s influence cannot be understated.
Without a doubt she is the OG influencer.
Not only has she made the art of entertaining and everyday hosting feel totally doable.
But she’s also made themed parties, creating an aesthetic and an inviting atmosphere, cooking with seasonal ingredients, signature cocktails and homemade party favors the gold standard.
If you haven’t hosted in a while, Summer is a great time to brush up on your entertaining skills.

It’s All in the Details
Whenever I think about Martha’s empire, I think about her meticulous attention to details.
There’s no denying it’s the little things that elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary.
It’s truly a superpower.
So, if you’re always rushing through your lists or simply making do, now is a great time to slow down and embrace the details.
From making a weeknight meal to creating an elegant place setting, to the way a room is expertly designed or a gift presented, it’s the details that set things apart and make for a memorable experience.

Create a CEO Mindset
Like many of us, Martha Stewart has had ups and downs over the years.
Yet she’s continually embracing the art of reinvention.
All while staying passionate about her many businesses by constantly learning new things, seeking inspiration, slowly curating, taking advantage of opportunities, remaining relevant and adapting to change.
Always remember, you are the CEO of your life.
You set the standard.
You create the change.
So, keep it simple, thoughtful, intentional and beautiful.
