Quick and Easy Brown and White Transferware Inspired Platters
We’re sharing how to make Quick and Easy Brown and White Transferware Inspired Platters today!
Last Spring my talented friend Rachel of The Ponds Farmhouse made a fabulous blue and white inspired ginger jar.
Then around Thanksgiving my creative friend Cindy from DIY Beautify made the cutest transferware inspired pitcher and platter with turkeys for her dining room hutch using a similar technique.
They had no idea at the time, but the minute I saw their project ideas, I knew they had inadvertently solved a problem we’d been struggling with for a while.

You see, for months my Mom and I have been treasure hunting for brown and white transferware pieces to use in a plate wall at my house and to fill in several spaces in her bookcase at Loblolly.
We often come home empty handed because brown and white transferware is so hard to find in our area.
But after seeing Rachel’s and Cindy’s post, I knew we could easily DIY a set of brown and white transferware plates of our own.

It was wildly simple.
And since I had previously crafted brown and white transferware pumpkins, I already had the materials I needed on hand to get started.
Here’s a look at how to make quick and easy brown and white transferware inspired platters in case you want to make a set too.

Quick and Easy Brown and White Transferware Inspired Platter…
Brown and White Transferware Platter Supplies:
- White Plate or Platter
- Paper Napkins
- Decoupage Glue
- Glue Brush
- Scissors
Brown and White Transferware Inspired Platter Steps:
Gather your supplies and make sure your workspace is free from dirt and debris.
We found these platters at a thrift store many years ago.
They’re stamped with a simple USA on the back and are chipped in some places.
Since they’re not actual ironstone, they were very budget friendly.

I also found the napkins on Amazon several years ago.
They’re made by the CR Gibson company but are currently unavailable.
I wanted to share them in case you come across something similar though.

Make sure you separate all the napkin layers.
These napkins are 3-ply but you will only need the very top layer for this project.

Next, using caution and care as scissors will be sharp, cut around napkin’s design.

After you have finished cutting your pieces, loosely arrange them on your platter.
That way, you can see what pattern or design fits best.
Next, layer a small amount of decoupage glue onto the platter.
Then carefully place the napkin piece down.
Once your napkin piece is in place, apply an additional layer of decoupage glue to the top of the design to seal it in place.
Use your brush to flatten out the napkin pieces as needed.

Allow the platter to dry completely.

Things to Keep in Mind…
Keep in mind, these quick and easy brown and white transferware inspired platters should be used for decorative purposes only, as they are not food safe.
We plan to display these on the wall in one of the bedrooms and in my Mom’s bookcase at Loblolly.

While nothing can take the place of authentic brown and white transferware, this DIY version was simple and fun to create.
Bonus, they fit in perfectly with the rest of our transferware collection which feels like a win.

Let us know if try you crafting these brown and white transferware inspired platters and a huge thank you to Rachel and Cindy for inspiring this post!
