From the Front Porch: An Enchanted October
Hello from the Front Porch sweet friends. Welcome to the Enchanted October edition of this weekly series.
Thanks so much for spending time with us today.
How has your week been?
As some of you know my nephew is the kicker for his high school football team.
And last week’s game was a big one.
His team was playing against their county rivals and both schools were undefeated.
The buzz was so intense tickets started selling out on Tuesday for the Friday night game.
So, we knew we had to be at the stadium much earlier than we usually arrive for home games.
One of the cool parts about arriving early is that we got to see the team warm up and run drills together.
While they were dressed out, they didn’t have their pads and helmets on yet.
And save for the sounds of whistles from the coaches and footballs being caught and kicked, the field was eerily quiet as each player was fully focused and locked in.
As I was watching my nephew practice, I noticed all the players wore the same charcoal gray compression shirt.
On the front of the shirt was their team’s name.
And on the back was a hashtag with the word faithful.
The instant I saw the word faithful I felt my heart swell.
Their last two wins have been scrappy, nail biting, down to the final minute of the game kind of wins.
And this game was no exception they came from behind to win 28-24.
What struck me most as I watched the team and coaching staff celebrate their hard-won victory is how faithful they remained despite all the setbacks.
There were penalties, personal fouls, dropped balls, interceptions, missed tackles and goodness…the crowd…let’s just say, it was intense.
Yet the team ethos faithfully endured.
So, as we prepare to enter one of the busiest seasons of the year, I encourage you to come up with a one word ethos of your own to help you stay centered, focused and locked in.
As always, I’ll be cheering you on.
