From the Front Porch: Spring Craft Ideas

Hello from the front porch, sweet friends, welcome to the Spring Craft Ideas Edition of this weekly series, and happy adoption day to my sweet wild lady Piper.

Thanks so much for being here.

How has your week been?

Monday afternoon, I was on a prayer walk when a crow landed just a few feet from my path.

Given I live on a tiny island, it’s not uncommon to see multiple species of birds on any given day.

Especially, scrub birds, songbirds, shorebirds, marsh birds, and birds of prey like eagles, ospreys, and hawks.

We very rarely ever see crows, though.

In fact, I’ve probably only seen 3 crows in the 15 years I’ve lived here.

I was so intrigued by our guest, I immediately googled “crows” and “spirit animals,” and found that crows are thought to symbolize change or transformation, which was exactly what I had been praying about on my walk.

The next day, I received an email from Amy Porterfield that read in part, “The most dangerous place to be in your business is knowing exactly what needs to change and having a completely reasonable explanation for why now isn’t the time.”

If you’re not someone who’s running a business, let me rephrase it for you, “The most dangerous place to be in your life is knowing exactly what needs to change and having a completely reasonable explanation for why now isn’t the time.”

Did those words hit a little too close to home for you?

Me too.

The thing is, when we know what’s not working, we almost always know the next steps that need to be taken to course correct.

It’s just that overthinking, overplanning, perfectionism, self-doubt, and procrastination usually hold us back from the one thing we need to do most.

Get started.

So, whether you’re waiting on moments of clarity, a fresh season, for life to settle down, or a divine sign, I want to encourage you to find a small way to prove to yourself that you’re worth the effort of taking the first step.

Because the reality of life is that things might not ever feel settled, your season of calm might not come, and as Amy wrote, “The founders who get ahead in the next 12 months aren’t the ones who found the perfect moment. They’re the ones who stopped asking the chaos for permission.”

After all, clarity comes from action, and ready comes after you’ve begun.

As always, I’m cheering you on.

  5. Such a sweet picture of Piper!! We’ve been trying to get my 85-year-old Dad to move to FL, but he wants to stay put in KY, so thanks for the info on aging in place! I can’t believe it’s already time to “spring” forward! Here’s wishing you a wonderful week!

    1. You are so welcome, Donna. Trying to keep aging parents as independent as possible for as long as possible can definitely be tough to manage from far away so I hope it helps. Wishing you a happy weekend and an easy transition with the time change, CoCo

  6. CoCo,
You have so many great ideas. I appreciate you for sharing my Spring home tour and I plan to share a link to your DIY flower Easter Eggs on DRA tomorrow.

  7. Amy’s words remind me of when my parents would say- there’s no good time to have children. 👶 Meaning, there is always something in our life that needs improvement or change. Sometimes, you have to acknowledge the situation in life isn’t what you want it to be and make the change anyway. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom with us.
