From the Front Porch: A Summer Invitation

Happy Thursday from the front porch sweet friends and welcome to the Summer Invitation Edition!

Over the past few years, I’ve made a concerted effort to create helpful soundtracks.

Especially, during times of frustration or challenges.

And I realized the other day just how easily you can change your mindset by using the word “invitation.”

For example, when we temporarily had to put a bedroom makeover on hold because we unexpectedly had to replace a set of tires, and the AC unit at the same time we’re having the house painted, it became an invitation to be grateful we prioritize saving.

When I found myself dealing with yet another respiratory infection, it became an invitation to dig deeper into health and wellness.

When one of my sisters recently discovered she has mad research skills, I knew immediately those skills would be an invitation to help others heal.

And when my Mom felt overwhelmed by the amount of clutter she had accumulated in her dressing closet and bathroom vanity, it became an invitation to become a more mindful shopper and to simplify her spaces.

So, as we get ready to welcome a fresh new season, I invite you to create a summer bucket list that makes you excited to jump out of bed, to take care of the things you’ve been putting off or dreamed of doing for far too long, to trust your instincts and take advantage of the opportunities you’ve been given, and to boldly walk off the hamster wheel so you can craft a life filled with joy, adventure, abundance, simple pleasures and little luxuries.

As I shared in Tuesday’s subscriber email, I’ve decided to take a some time off to begin a comprehensive plan for better health and wellness, catch up on the classes required for my counseling certification renewal (gosh I’m so behind), and to help take a bit of pressure off while the house is filled with workers both inside and out.

While things will slow down a bit on the blog, I’m hoping to share behind the scene updates with subscribers as they develop.

So, if you’re not on the list yet, we’d love to have you.

As always, I’ll be cheering you on and I hope this summer season will be your most memorable season yet!

A Few of Our Favorite Things from Around the Web This Week…

Beautiful Home and Garden Tours:

  • Everything about this Charleston home via Basic Project looks so warm and inviting.
  • Have you seen this project by Marea Clark Interiors yet? All the layers of blues and greens are really pretty.
  • Now that we’re having the house painted, I’ve been searching for porch and patio inspiration from Flower Magazine.

Seasonal Inspiration:

  • Elizabeth from Pinecones and Acorns shared this post, 20 Little Things On My Summer Bucket List and it’s a fun one. I just added #3 and #9 to my list because it’s been forever since I’ve made time for either one.
  • The summer season is such a great time to try out new craft ideas. Have you seen the thrifted vases Rachel of The Ponds Farmhouse recently created? Her blog is filled with awesome ideas.
  • Love how Michele of Vintage Home Designs made a DIY block print jute rug. It looks fabulous on her porch.
  • If you plan to treasure hunt this summer, Anna from Sky Lark House has a fun list of 5 vintage things to decorate with and look for.
  • This award winning summer tablescape from Jen of Midwest Life and Style is still one of my all time favorites.

  1. Wow, CoCo! What a fabulous mix of links and products. I always look forward to your newsletters because you include so much helpful, fun, and inspiring information.

I’m proud of you for stepping back to take care of all the things you need to do, but I will miss you. 🙂

Also, I wanted to thank you for one of the products you listed a few weeks ago. It’s a tote that I bought and used on our recent trip to Scotland. It’s perfect because of the laptop storage, all the pockets, and the sturdiness. Plus it’s super cute. I love it! I’m not sure if I chose the same color you linked, but I got this one because it coordinates really well with my favorite duffle and my crossbody purse.

Anyway, thanks for all you do, and blessings on you, my friend, for a wonderful summer.

    Hugs,
    LeAnne

    1. I really appreciate your kind words, LeAnne, thank you! This post is definitely one of my favorites to work on each week and I’m tickled pink that it resonates with you and so many others too. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip to Scotland and I’m excited that the laptop bag was so helpful because I use mine all the time. Sending you lots of hugs and thank yous for being such an awesome part of this community, CoCo

    1. You’re so sweet, Rachel, thanks so much. I really appreciate it. Sending you so many hugs, CoCo

  2. Enjoy your time off to refresh and recharge – we’ll be here when you get back!

  3. I love how you are taking challenges this year and using them as fuel to make improvements. I hope you feel better soon and I am sure the remodel will be even better after you’ve had more time to gather inspiration for the project!

  4. I am glad you are taking the time you need to heal and get necessary things down around the house CoCo. Take care of yourself, and may you be blessed with wellness soon. I have to tell you, I am taking on the basement, you were an inspiration to me… and so I will see where this journey takes me.

  5. I hope all is going well! I’m glad you’re taking somewhat of a break. Just thinking about the demands for the counseling is a lot! I’ll be praying for you daily.

  6. Hi CoCo – It’s me again! Gosh, when I read your posts, I feel like I have so much to tell you. So before I forget:
    1. THANK YOU FOR SHARING MY POST on 5 vintage things to decorate with for summer.
    2. The link you shared to the house in Charleston reminded me of the show Happy to Be Home with the Benkos.
I think you would really enjoy it. It is on the Magnolia network.
    3. I usually spend a good 10 hours on Sundays working. You know: making projects, photographing them, editing photos, making graphics/pins in Canva, reading others blog posts, writing my own posts, responding to emails. . . you know the list that never ends. Anyway – today feeling exceptionally overwhelmed and “behind on everything” – I left the house for some much needed “me” time. While out and about – I found the most charming handmade quilt from the 1930s and set of 6 brown and white transferware soup bowls from the mid 1800s. (Bonus – the soup bowls were only $30.) It was some much needed therapy. After reading your post, I feel like I made the right decision on how to spend my Sunday. Thank you.
