New Year’s Eve Ornaments

We’re sharing how to make New Year’s Eve ornaments today!

Ever since I crafted our quick and easy Halloween tree, I’ve been dreaming of creating a New Year’s Eve tree as well.

I still have the black ribbons from our Halloween tree and the gold ribbons from our Unexpected Gifts Holiday Home Tour, but I didn’t have a lot of New Years Eve inspired ornaments to use.

That said, I didn’t want to spend a lot of extra money on a tree we’d only be using a week either.

So, the minute the holiday craft ornaments went on sale, I decided to scoop some of them up to make my own New Year’s Eve ornaments.

Here’s a look at how to make New Year’s Eve ornaments in case you plan to decorate too.

Ornament Supplies

  • Clear plastic (purchased from Hobby Lobby)
  • Metallic confetti or glitter (purchased from Hobby Lobby)
  • Small embellishments, optional
  • Ribbon or string (in gold, silver, or the color of your choice)
  • Small pieces of paper
  • Scissors
  • Pens or markers

Ornament Steps

Gather your supplies.

Start by carefully removing the top of your clear ornament.

Make sure the inside is clean and dry.

Next, add festive fillings such as metallic confetti, glitter, or small beads and embellishments into your ornament.

This will help add sparkle and a celebratory feel for New Year’s Eve.

Plus, the extra beads sound like shakers so they can pull double duty as noise makers at midnight.

Another idea is to include your New Year’s wishes.

I used this technique to age paper.

Then I wrote down a wish for the coming year.

You can also write resolutions, blessings, or positive affirmations as well.

Once you’re finished simply roll or fold your wish and drop them inside the ornament.

This makes your decoration meaningful and personal.

Next, loop a festive ribbon or string through the ornament’s top.

Use gold, silver, or black for a classic look, or choose colors that match your party theme.

Tie a bow for an elegant finishing touch.

Finally, hang your ornament on a decorative branch, your New Year’s Eve tree, or include it in the place settings of your New Years Eve tablescape.

You can also gift your handmade ornament to friends or family as a keepsake for the year ahead.

Tips for Creativity and Customization

  • If you’re hosting a party, encourage guests to write their own wishes and add them to an ornament.
  • Experiment with different fills, like tinsel, fake snow, or tiny charms.
  • Use stencils for neat designs, or try painting with glitter glue or metallic paint pens for extra sparkle.

Celebrating a Festive New Year’s Eve

Making a New Year’s Eve ornament is a simple yet impactful way to celebrate the holiday.

It’s a craft that can be enjoyed by all ages and offers a chance for creativity and reflection.

Whether you keep it for yourself or give it away, your handmade ornament will help make New Year’s Eve even more special.
