Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar

We’re sharing a Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar as we team up with some of our favorite ladies for the April Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop hosted by the always amazing, Cindy of County Road 407.

If you’re coming over from Cindy’s blog, welcome, we’re happy to have you here.

Cindy is wildly talented so I can’t wait to see all the ideas she has to make, bake, and take this Mother’s Day.

This month’s Pinterest Challenge theme is Mother’s Day gift ideas and the minute I read those words on the schedule I knew exactly what to create.

My Mom loves to countdown to special holidays and events.

In fact, she recently used this Countdown to Valentine’s Day Calendar to surprise my Dad with treats and activities each day and he loved it!

Like most moms, my Mom is famous for doing things for other people before she does anything for herself.

So, it seems only fitting to create a Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar for her to enjoy.

Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar Steps:

Gather your supplies and make sure your workspace has been prepped and cleaned.

Use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges on your wooden advent calendar.

My Mom loves things that are chippy and worn so I skipped this step.

Then using caution and care, spray paint your wooden advent calendar in the color of your choice in a well-ventilated area.

We chose white to keep it simple so my Mom could use the countdown calendar throughout the year for multiple holidays.

If you don’t want to use spray paint you can also use craft paint, chalk paint, or mineral paint.

Once you’ve finished painting your wooden advent calendar, allow it to dry completely.

While your calendar is drying, spray paint the metal number tokens in the color of your choice or use a product like Rub n Buff to create a patinaed finish.

Once the numbers have completely dried, secure each number to the advent calendar.

Remember to use caution and care as the glue, glue gun, and metal tokens will be all hot.

After the hot glue has dried, you’re ready to stuff the drawers of your countdown to Mother’s Day calendar with treats.

Things to Keep in Mind…

Keep in mind the drawers are small.

So, you can write a fun activity on a piece of paper like “Enjoy a Day at the Spa,” “Picnic on the Beach,” or “Pack Your Suitcase, We’re Leaving for Paris on Friday” and stick it in the drawers.

Or you can wrap a small gift and place it in each drawer.

My Mom is definitely that person who is afraid to wear her “good jewelry” when she travels.

So, my sisters and I are always on the lookout for little earrings or bracelets she can easily wear without a lot of fuss.

Here are a few budget-friendly ideas we found on Amazon if your Mom is that Mom too…

A Quick and Easy Way to Celebrate…

All in all, I’m excited about the way this Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar came together.

Not only was it relatively quick and easy but I know my Mom will appreciate being able to use it throughout the year too.

Plus, it was fun to find little gifts that my Dad and I could sneak into each drawer.

I hope if you decide to create this Countdown to Mother’s Day Calendar you’ll have fun finding little treasures as well!
