DIY Crime‑Drama Bookmark for Spooky Season
If you’ve been following for any length of time, you already know how much I love books.
I look forward to looking through stacks of Fall decorating books and curling up with books that help make the season even more festive every year.
This year, I created Boo Bags around a Blind Date with a Book Halloween and Fall Edition, which was so much fun!
Most of my friends and family also love to read, which makes it nice because there’s always someone to talk about a book with.
Especially given that we all like different genres of books.
My bestie S, Mom, and sister love crime dramas and books filled with suspense and mystery.
So, I decided to make a bookmark for that theme.
You would not believe how easy it was to create.
Here’s a look at how to craft a DIY crime drama bookmark for spooky season.

DIY Crime Drama Bookmark for Spooky Season…
Bookmark Supplies
- Wooden Bookmark
- Craft Paint
- Craft Paintbrush
- Markers or Paint Pens, optional
- Computer, Printer, Paper, optional
- Glue, optional
- Soft Toothbrush
- Ribbon, optional
- Gloves
- Tarp to protect your work surface
Bookmark Steps
Gather your supplies.

Paint your wooden bookmark and allow it to dry completely.

Next, freehand, decoupage, or use the easy transfer method to attach a phrase to your bookmark.

I used “I’m onto you” and “I knew it!” because I hear those phrases most often!
Additional Ideas to Craft…
- I saw that coming
- Detective mode: activated
- Something’s not adding up…
- I have theories
- This smells suspicious
- Plot twist pending
- Just one more clue…
- Reading between the lies

Again, allow the marker, paint, or glue to fully dry once you’ve added your phrase.

Next, dip a soft toothbrush into a craft paint color of your choice.
Using caution and care, rub the top of the toothbrush head with your thumb.
This motion will create a splatter effect.

Once your bookmark is completely dry, add a ribbon to the top if you like and enjoy.

Making Time to Craft This Season…
Creating this little crime‑drama bookmark reminded me how fun it is to make something simple that feels personal and seasonal.

If you have a mystery‑loving friend in your life, this is such an easy way to add a thoughtful touch to their fall reading stack, Boo Basket, or Blind Date with a Book Boo Bag.
A few supplies, a cozy afternoon, and a little creativity are all it takes to make something they’ll smile at every time they turn a page.
