From the Front Porch

Happy Sunday from the front porch, you guys. Thanks so much for spending time with us today!

After a roller coaster two weeks, it’s hard to even know where to begin.  Every time I look at the coverage of the Bahamas and the Carolinas, post Hurricane Dorian, I just feel heart sick.

Several of our most faithful readers live in those areas.  I know a lot of you have family and friends in that area as well.  Some of you just got back from vacationing in Marsh Harbour and a few others were set to be in Charleston for a wedding this weekend.

It’s hard to believe one storm can cause so much suffering and destruction.   As bad as these storms have been though, the real work begins once the rain stops.

If you’re looking for a way to help storm victims in need, consider working with local charities that are specifically working to service those in the affected areas or national organizations that have been well vetted.

A big thank you to everyone that reached out to us during the storm. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate it.  Everything is fine here save for lots of yard debris to clean up which we know is a blessing.

I’m pretty sure almost every Floridian living in a coastal community know they were largely spared by this storm.  While I can’t speak for all of them, we promise to pay it forward.

TCG: Behind the Scenes…

Several weeks ago, my mom and I celebrated our last summer outing by shopping together in neighboring town.  We found some really great pieces for the bedroom makeovers at Bliss Barracks.  There’s an estate sale to go to on Thursday and then hopefully, we can start putting some things together.

We would have loved to bring this antique bench home.  Can you imagine how pretty that would have been in a breakfast nook?

This recently opened home décor store sold mostly farmhouse style antique items and furniture.  It was actually right next door to the place we ate lunch.  They had some really unique pieces and beautiful vignettes.

Downton Abbey, the movie, will be in theaters September 20th.  Here’s the official trailer if you haven’t seen it yet.  A lot of local PBS stations are hosting events at various movie theaters all around the country. Be sure to check and see if yours is one of them!

If you’re excited about Fall but not quite ready to let go of summer just yet, this gorgeous tablescape would be fantastic with pears, green apples, plums or even white pumpkins.

TCG Housekeeping Notes & Upcoming Posts…

I’ve spent most of this weekend trying to get back into the swing of things because I’m the kind of person that craves structure no matter what is going on around me.  I was two weeks ahead before Dorian set up camp just off our coast.  And now, I find myself behind in almost every area.

While these past few weeks have felt like a roller coaster of emotions, I’m thankful they’ve helped us keep things in perspective.  We’ve made intentional time to have long dinners together as a family, to laugh and listen and comfort each other in the middle an uncertain storm.

If September didn’t start off the way you had planned (us either), we’ve actually been given the perfect opportunity to refresh our hearts and minds.

We don’t have to begin on a Monday. We can start any time we’re ready, no matter what kind of stormy seas come our way.

Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo

  1. So thankful you all are OK, CoCo. I thought of you – always do during these awful storms. A lot of our NC coast didn’t fare as well, but it could have been so much worse. It hurts my heart to see how devastated those in the Bahama’s are – so very sad. We have so much to be thankful for.

    1. You’re so sweet, Patty, thank you! We’ve been thinking about you guys as well. Storms like these are always scary and I’m with you the devastation is heartbreaking. I’ll definitely be glad to see hurricane season officially come to a close this year and will be counting my blessings too. Sending you hugs, CoCo
