How to Easily Clean a Porch and Patio

We’re sharing how to easily clean a porch and patio today!

This summer, we took the plunge and finally painted our house in Ultra White from Sherwin Williams.

It’s such a pretty shade and fits our house perfectly.

The thing I didn’t anticipate though is that the house seems to attract a lot more bugs, frogs, and spider webs than it did before.

Maybe it’s because we’ve had an active rainy season thanks to all the hurricanes or perhaps it’s the lighting situation given we live on a migratory bird path and have certain parameters to maintain.

Maybe the insects, frogs, and spider webs have always been there, but our pest control guy is so amazing he cleans them off before we even notice.

Either way, I know it’s something we need to stay on top of.

Especially, before guests arrive!

What’s in the Box: Duster Kit Contents

This is the kit I ordered from Amazon.

It came with 3 attachments and an extender pole.

The extender pole by itself, at its longest, is 12 feet.

When you add the length of the attachment and your height with the extender pole, you might be able to reach the “up to” 20 feet part of the duster kit’s description.

We were able to reach most of the places we needed to reach from the ground.

But not all.

Using this duster for the eaves and the dormers would require additional length/height.

How Well Does It Work…

Truth be told, our trouble spot is not on the porch or patio at all.

It’s actually around the garage thanks to our current lighting situation.

So, I decided to start there.

I thought this area would take 30 minutes to clean but it took around 10 minutes using the cobweb duster.

Honestly, I couldn’t get over how quickly I was able to remove the cobwebs and bug graveyard.

We still have some deep cleaning to do but it looks much better now.

Next, I moved on to the porch ceiling and cleaning around the door and shutters.

Here’s a look at the porch ceiling before…

And after…

Again, it didn’t take away the dirt and grime, but it looks so much better now.

While I was cleaning the porch ceiling, I decided to try out a different attachment on the door, shutters and around the light.

We use a wand duster inside the house, so this microfiber fan duster was really easy to use.

I appreciate how gentle the attachment was around the lights too.

The squeegee duster attachment for the windows was relatively easy to use as well.

The head swivels in a variety of different positions so you can use it for multiple angles.

Finally, the back patio.

It was actually in the best shape save for a few of the corners.

How to Easily Clean a Porch and Patio: Things to Keep In Mind…

Even now as I look back at these pictures, I can’t believe how easy it was to clean the porch, patio and exterior of the house.

This dusting kit worked so much better than I thought it would!

It took about an hour and 45 minutes to clean the exterior of the house which is less time than it takes us to pressure wash.

For the sake of full disclosure, we have Hardie siding and I can’t speak to how this kit would work for other materials.

So, make sure you test out a small section first.

Also, it goes without saying, always wear proper cleaning and safety gear when cleaning the exterior of your home and using duster kits.

Pros and Cons…

As far as pros go, the instructions were easy to follow.

I also loved that the attachments were simple to secure on the extender pole.

The padded grips on the pole were a bonus as well.

This duster kit is easy to clean too.

And I like the fact that it can be used indoors or out.

Although, we’ll be using this one primarily outside.

The cons would be the pole becomes more flexible when fully extended which some might see as a pro.

I thought that made it harder to get the tough spots off while using it from the ground over 15 feet though.

Another con was that the window squeegee duster was hard to rinse out which made it messy.

I had to physically squeeze it out with my hands which was gross.

So, if you also find squeezing the water out of mops or these kinds of attachments gross as well, you’ll need gloves.

Keeping It Simple…

Over the past few years, we’ve been looking for easy ways to clean the porch and patio.

So, I’m excited to continue using this duster kit.

While it will never take the place of a good pressure wash and deep clean, it’s nice to have a quick option that makes a big impact.

Especially, as the seasons change and we prepare for company!

  1. This looks like a great product! I need to do an outdoor assessment. I’ll probably be shocked.

    1. I definitely couldn’t get over our bug graveyard, Susan. It was wild! I’m thankful this product works as quickly as it does though because I can’t tell you how often I’ve needed to clean off the porch in a pinch because I ran out of time! Big hugs, CoCo

  2. Don’t you love it when you find a product that works great! We bought a kit similar to this years ago and use it all the time. The extending pole is so handy to reach high places and it works great to dust chandeliers and the spindles of our staircase! Thanks for sharing!
