Semi Homemade Foraged Flower Bouquet
We’re sharing a semi homemade foraged flower bouquet as we team up with the fabulous ladies of the Handcrafted Society Blog Hop!
Truth be told when I found out theme for this month’s hop was “foraged materials,” I was immediately worried.
I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person who simply walks out to my garden, picks a few stems of this and that, and makes a gorgeous seasonal wreath or bouquet for friends and loved ones.
But almost everything on this tiny Florida island is still very much green.
Not to mention, most of the foliage we see this time of year has either been beaten down by the coastal winds and rains or has shriveled up in the heat completely.
Still, I was determined.
And the minute my niece was scheduled for surgery it was like a light bulb went off and I decided to create a foraged flower bouquet to help cheer her up.
Here’s a look at how you can make one too…
How to create a semi homemade foraged flower bouquet…
Semi Homemade Foraged Flower Bouquet Supplies:
- Variety of Greenery or Foliage (from your yard or property)
- Seasonal Bouquet (we bought ours from a local market)
- Gardening Scissors
- Vase
- Water
- Ribbon, optional
Semi Homemade Foraged Flower Bouquet Steps:
Gather your supplies.
Although there are a lot of beautiful vases to choose from, I usually prefer 8 inch footed vases because you can arrange a variety of bouquet styles in them.
Additionally, they’re relatively easy to transport and reuse too.
Also, make sure your foraged stems are clean and free from pests.
You don’t want to bring anything wild into your home.
Using caution and care as scissors will be sharp, trim the stems of your market bouquet to the appropriate size of your vase.
Then fill half the vase with water.
Add a few stems of the same color into your vase.
Next, add the rest of your seasonal market bouquet stems by color group and arrange them as desired.
Fill in any holes or gaps with the foraged materials from your yard.
Finally, wrap a ribbon around your semi homemade foraged flower bouquet if desired.
And enjoy!
Take the Pressure Off…
I can’t tell you how many times I haven’t gifted someone a foraged arrangement because the things growing around our property didn’t seem “special” enough.
But after completing this project I’ve realized, semi homemade or homemade bouquets don’t have to be anything elaborate or expensive, they just need to be thoughtful and intentional.
So, don’t let the lack of “magazine worthy” flowers keep you from letting someone know you care.
Because some of the most beautiful bouquets I’ve ever seen have been filled with simple greenery and seasonal foliage.
From gorgeous magnolias to brightly colored branches to delicate roses and everything in between, it all counts as a gift.

I love this, CoCo! I have felt the same way about bouquets. A few years ago, I was going to do sunflower bouquets for my daughter’s graduation party, and feeling very insecure about my skills, I asked a flowery friend to come help me. I’d bought a lot of greenery but not quite enough, so she went out into our front yard, clipped some pieces from trees and shrubs, and added them to the arrangements. It opened up a whole new world for me. You’ve inspired me to do that again!
Thanks for all you do for us readers,
LeAnne
Speak to my heart, LeAnne, I felt the same way! I always see these gorgeous flower ideas and then get the pieces home and struggle to put them together in a way that makes sense much less are pretty enough to display. I realized when I did this post though that greenery makes such a big difference. Especially in helping to make the bouquets feel full and abundant. Like you, it made me want to experiment more which is always a good thing! Sending you hugs, CoCo
Coco
Such a lovely arrangement.
Thank you so much, Rachel, I really appreciate it! Big hugs, CoCo
It’s been so hot and humid this summer in NJ. Our annuals took a beating. But the bonus our hydrangeas were mire amazing than normal. If that makes sense.
Pretty bouquet. I’m sure your niece loved them. I hope her surgery went well.
CoCo! This is such a fabulous idea! Your arrangement is gorgeous and I adore how the foraged material added so much volume to it! It looks like it came from an expensive flower store! Can’t wait to try this sometime! I know your niece was thrilled to get this and I hope she is recovering quickly!
So sweet of you, Donna, thank you! As you know, there’s not a lot of colorful things growing wild in Florida this time of year. So, it was interesting to look out at all that greenery and try and come up with something that felt creative but also easy at the same time. I can’t wait to see more of your ideas for spooky season. The spanish moss wreath you had today was amazing! Big hugs, CoCo
So pretty, CoCo!! What a thoughtful way to brighten another’s day. Hope you are well!
Thank you so much, Rachel. It was definitely a way fun way to cheer her hup and to stretch my flower arrangement skills at the same time. I look at the greenery growing in our way in a whole different way now. Sending you hugs and hoping your Fall season is off to a fabulous start, CoCo
This looks beautiful CoCo. I’m sure your niece loved it and I hope she’s recovering well. Have a wonderful day. XO- MaryJo
I really appreciate it, MaryJo, thank you. She recently started PT so she’s definitely on the mend and it was fun to bring a little bright spot to her day. She’s such a cutie pie! Sending you hugs for a happy day, CoCo
CoCo, your arrangement is gorgeous. Love the silk ribbon added to the arrangement is the perfect touch.
You are so smart CoCo, to use your own greenery in your flower arrangements. It looks so healthy and green which really makes those flowers pop! What a sweet gesture, and will no doubt be appreciated! Hugs!
Brilliant CoCo! Your niece certainly provided great inspiration. Prayers that she is recovering well.
Beautiful arrangement, Coco! Like you, it is still pretty green here in Nebraska. I love how you layered the flowers so simply and filled out with greenery. We should all create lovely floral arrangements like this for our homes year-round!
I am hoping for a speedy recovery for your niece, and I am sure she loved this stunning bouquet. I would love to create flower arrangements, if I could grow flowers. You have quite a knack for putting together flower arrangements and greenery and knowing what looks good together my friend.
