DIY Game Day Tee

We’re sharing a DIY game day tee and easy outfit ideas today!

Recently, we were headed to my nephew’s football game and were mere steps from the front door when we received an urgent phone call.

Once the situation had been handled, we bolted to the car.

Then we raced down the road only to be stopped by the train which was rolling along at a snail’s pace.

Not surprisingly, my heart sank the minute I saw the train because I knew we’d be stuck in heavy traffic from that point forward, we’d likely miss dinner with my parents, and the start of the game too.

Truthfully, the whole experience could have caused an unraveling had it not been for one thing.

The ease of our game day uniform.

You see, last year I wore the exact same outfit down to the earrings to all my nephew’s football games.

And it made getting ready during hectic weeks so much easier.

I didn’t have to stand in front of my closet searching for school colors or something I felt comfortable in.

I simply grabbed what worked week in and week out and it was a total game changer.

This year I’ve decided to do the same thing.

So, I wanted to share our DIY game day tee if you’re kicking off football season and other sports activities too.

  • Raglan Tee (this shirt comes in multiple colors and is true to size. I bought the maroon and black in a large.)
  • Iron On Number (multiple number and outline colors available)
  • Game Day Sweatshirt (I bought the sweatshirt shown above from my sister’s shop to wear during cold weather games. It comes in maroon, red, and blue and I sized down to a medium. I wanted to share in case you don’t have time to make your own though)
  • Pearls (vintage)
  • Measuring Tape
  • Straight Pins
  • Iron
  • Ironing Board
  • Kitchen or Flour Sack Towel

DIY Game Day Tee Steps:

Gather your supplies.

Lay your shirt flat.

Use a measuring tape to help decide where to place your number.

I placed mine in the upper left-hand corner of my DIY game day tee.

Next, secure the number in place with painters tape or a straight pin.

Remember to use caution and care as pins will be sharp.

Place a towel over your number.

Then using caution and care as iron will be hot, iron over your number.

I ironed the bottom half of mine first, then removed the straight pens and ironed the upper half.

Once your number is attached, carefully, flip your tee shirt inside out, place your towel over the number and iron it again to further secure.

Allow your DIY game day tee to cool completely.

Then wear and enjoy!

Things to Keep in Mind…

One of the things I love most about this quick and easy game day tee is that it doesn’t take long to make at all.

Additionally, you can complely customize it based on the colors and number of your favorite player or team.

That said, both the DIY game day tee shirt I made and the sweatshirt I bought from my sister’s online shop are hand wash.

So, keep that in mind.

  5. What a great idea CoCo! If I made something like this, I would put my husband’s football number on it… in all honesty, he wishes I would be more into sports, but my head is typically in the clouds thinking up new crafts while he watches every sport known to man. I just may take your advice and surprise him, I know he would love it!
