How to Repurpose a Broomstick for Charming Halloween Front Door Décor
Every year, I try to make a few handmade pieces for my fall décor.
It’s become a little tradition that makes the season feel cozier and more intentional.
This year I was inspired by the movie Practical Magic and all the witchy, whimsical touches that make October so much fun.

So, I decided to repurpose a broom I’d once used for a costume and turn it into a festive piece of front‑door décor.
It turned out even cuter than I expected, and honestly, you don’t even need a broomstick.
You can also use this same idea with a twisted tree branch if you like.
Here’s a look at how you can make one too.

How to Repurpose a Broomstick for Charming Halloween Front‑Door Décor…
Broomstick Supplies
- Broomstick or Twisted Branch (make sure the branch has been properly cleaned first)
- Hula Skirt Costume (paper or grass)
- Scissors
- Rubber Band
Broomstick Steps
Gather your supplies.
I used this broomstick from an old Halloween costume.
But as I shared above, you can use lots of other stick or handle options.

Wrap the hula skirt costume around the base of your broom or branch.

Then, secure it in place with a rubber band.

Next, if you plan to hang your broomstick on the front door, be sure to shield it from the elements with a coat of protective spray paint.
As always, make sure you read all the manufacturer’s instructions on the protective spray prior to using it.

Finally, add a bow or ribbon to the top of your broomstick.

Hang and enjoy!

Crafting Festive Décor…
Repurposing this broomstick turned out to be such a simple, charming way to dress up our front door for the season.
I love projects that make use of things I already have on hand, and this one added just the right touch of whimsy to our Spooky Season décor.
If you have an old broom tucked away somewhere, give it a little makeover and let it greet your guests with a bit of October magic.
Sometimes the easiest crafts end up being the ones that make your home feel the most festive.
