A Mini Jute Broom for Spooky Season
We’re sharing how to make a mini jute broom for spooky season today!
At the beginning of fall, I spent an afternoon making projects for the Handcrafted Society Blog Hop.
Our theme was jute or rope.
And since we were in the middle of back-to-school season, I decided to make tassels for bookmarks and days of the week tags.
Just for the sake of full disclosure though, the minute I saw the tassels I immediately thought about Spooky Season.
After all, the size and the texture of the jute looked like the base of a mini witch’s broom to me.
So, I filed the idea away for later.
And as we were cleaning up the yard post hurricane, I found the perfect sticks to make broom handles.
This is another project idea that is so quick and easy, it almost doesn’t need a full tutorial.
But I know they’re always helpful.
Bonus, these mini spooky jute brooms don’t take long to make which is perfect if you’re running short on time or are looking to add a few simple seasonal touches around the house without a lot of extra fuss.
Here’s a look at how to make a Mini Spooky Jute Broom…

Mini Spooky Jute Broom Steps
Gather your supplies.
If you’re using sticks from your yard, make sure they’ve been fully cleaned and are free from pests.
You don’t want to bring pests inside the house.
After you’ve finished cleaning your sticks, spray paint the sticks outside in a well-ventilated area.
Be sure to use caution and care, as you follow the instructions (including the safety precautions) on the back of your spray paint can.
We used flat black.
Once your sticks are dry, use caution and care to carefully shave one end of your stick into a point like a pencil.
Then carefully, thread the pointed end of the stick into the back of your jute tassel.
Be sure your stick doesn’t poke through all the way.
If you have a loop on your tassel, you can glue it down or use a small straight pen to secure it in place.
Just be sure the base of the straight pen does not hang through the tassel threads because you don’t want to stick anyone or cause harm.
Once you’ve secured the tassel loop, you’re ready to enjoy.
These mini spooky jute brooms are great because you don’t have to have a lot of time or materials to craft them.
Plus, they can be used in spooky season vignettes and on tablescapes which makes them really versatile too.
