This Week’s Tip Sheet: The Breakfast Nook

Hello, beautiful friends and welcome to Week 13 of the Simplified and Organized Home Challenge.

This week we’re focusing on the breakfast nook and over the years, I’ve found people are usually in two camps.

They either use it every day or not at all.

Whenever I think about our breakfast nook, I’m always amazed at how easily that small space meets the demands of our daily lives.

It’s the place where we eat the majority of our meals, craft, have tea parties, create beautiful tablescapes, host friends and family, work, study, and wrap presents.

It’s truly a workhorse.

Given that it’s as important as the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room, we’re careful to make sure the area stays neat and tidy.

So, I wanted to share simple ways you can keep the breakfast nook both pretty and practical.

Now, on to this week’s Tip Sheet!

This Week’s Tip Sheet…

Quote of the Week:

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” ~H. Jackson Brown Jr.

This Week’s Big To-Do’s:

  • Declutter/Organize and Refresh the Breakfast Nook
  • Try a New Breakfast Recipe
  • Begin Purposeful Living Challenge
  • Order Easter Basket Supplies
  • Prepare for April and Q2 Goals

This Week’s Tidy Tips:

  • When it comes to decorating your breakfast nook, choose a cohesive color palette that blends seamlessly with the rest of your home.
  • Keep decor warm and inviting yet simple. Especially if you have a bench with lots of pillows.
  • Use a tray to corral vignette items and flowers so you can easily move them out of the way when you’re ready to eat or craft.
  • If you’re short on storage, consider adding shelves, or a buffet and hutch to your breakfast nook. They can be pretty and practical.
  • Let your breakfast nook buffet and hutch do double duty whenever possible. We keep the top hutch stacked with ironstone and transferware, but the bottom cabinet filled with wrapping paper supplies so it’s easier to use the table to wrap gifts throughout the year. One of my girlfriends uses the bottom of her buffet cabinet to hold craft supplies for her littles and my Mom uses the buffet in her breakfast nook to hold cookbooks.
  • Tidy and reset your breakfast nook after dinner, so you’ll be able to enjoy a more relaxing morning.
  • If your kids eat in the breakfast nook before school, consider setting the table before you go to bed. It will help save time the next day.
  • If you love to commemorate special holidays or events but don’t feel like decorating the entire house, consider just concentrating on the breakfast nook. It’s a small space which will save you time and money. Plus, it’s an easy space to make things feel fun and festive without all the extra fuss.

This Week’s Wellness Tips:

Breakfast is hands down my favorite meal of the day.

So, I’m always on the lookout for healthy recipes as I tend to favor sweet foods over savory.

One thing I’ve been working on since our morning routine and work schedule have changed so much is to front load my day with protein.

While it takes extra planning to make breakfast tacos or chia seed pudding over a bowl of oatmeal, it’s worth the efforting knowing I’m getting the right amount of protein throughout the day.

Plus, it helps keep me full until lunch and has significantly cut down on snacking between meals too.

Given our bodies and nutritional needs are all different, be sure to check with your doctor, medical care provider or nutritionist about how many grams of protein you should be getting each day.

They can help develop a plan that is right for you.

As always, I hope these tips have helped!

Cheering you on as you start your day in a healthy way,

CoCo
