Vintage Inspired Aged Books
We’re sharing how to create a vintage inspired aged books today as we team up with some of our favorite creative ladies of The Handcrafted Society.
This month, our theme is books which makes me wildly happy.
I love everything about books from the way they smell to how the paper feels when you turn the page of a thriller you just can’t put down.
We have them all over the house on bookshelves, in vignettes, next to the bathtub, on coffee tables and nightstands.
Books truly make my heart sing.
So, I wanted to share how to create a vintage inspired aged books in case you also love books and decorate or gift them too.
Honestly, this is another project that is so easy it doesn’t need a tutorial, but I know they’re always helpful.

How to create a vintage inspired aged books…
Vintage Inspired Aged Books Supplies:
- Hardback book, journal or notebook
- Decorative Paint
- Paint Brush
- Dark Paste Wax
- Wax Brush or Lint Free Cloth
- Rub N Buff, optional
- Flat Backed Embellishment
- Strong Glue Adhesive (E6000) or Glue Sticks and Glue Gun
- Tarp
Vintage Inspired Aged Books Steps:
Gather your supplies and lay a tarp down to protect your worksurface.
First, if you’re using a thrifted book or have a specific color palette in mind you’ll need to paint your book.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Next, “age” your book with dark paste wax.
Be sure to read the label on the back of your wax can so you’ll know how long it will take for the wax to fully cure.

Once your book is aged to perfection, add a fun embellishment.
I found this one at the Fall in the Fields event for around $3.
The style reminds me of the royal memorabilia I collect.
So, it was fun to find.

Given my book is an aged gray color, I decided to add a bit of Rub N Buff to give it a European feel.

Next, I applied E6000 to the back of the embellishment.
And placed it in the middle of the book.
Keep in mind, E6000 can have an offensive odor.
So, make sure you’ve followed the manufacturer’s instructions and use E6000 in a well-ventilated area.

What I love about vintage inspired aged books is that they’re super easy to create.
I also love that you can customize each book with an embellishment that best suits your home décor or the gift recipient’s personality.

In fact, I used a similar technique to create custom journals, and they’ve been a big hit.
So, I encourage you to add a special touch to your vintaged inspired aged books whenever you can.
It makes such a difference!
