From the Front Porch

Happy Thursday from the front porch you guys! How has your week been? Good, I hope. You ready to rock August like a boss? We are too! I gotta say, despite the crazy Florida heat, we are getting excited about all things Fall especially now that the Goldenrod has started blooming around our property.

It’s so great to be back on our regular posting schedule now that our summer break is over. My bestie S who runs the TCG website continues to heal post-surgery and we’re hopeful we’ll be in the final days of physical therapy soon.

If you’re new to our From the Front Porch series, every Thursday we share highlights from the week, our favorite books and podcasts, a weekly menu, interesting posts from around the web, a few favorite finds, all of our posts from the week and something from our archives.

I was really close to creating a TCG Newsletter over the summer but after being bombarded with emails these past few months, I’ve decided against it – at least for now. I’m thinking you guys would rather me pack more into this post each week and reformat the content than to receive another email or newsletter. Correct me if I’m wrong though…

I chose Thursdays instead of Fridays because I know some of you catch up on our posts over the weekends while others of you spend your weekends creating the projects you see online and a third group of you make time with family and friends a priority over the weekend.

We actually kick off the weekend on Thursday nights by meeting up for dinner, catching up from the week, tying up any loose ends that are needed for the weekend and going grocery shopping.
It sounds kind of weird, but it’s changed our whole week!

I can’t even tell you how much easier it is on the weekends to have the house fully stocked no matter what is on our agenda. You guys should try it some time and see how it works out for you. We kinda feel like we get a three-day weekend every weekend now.

Scenes from our week…

I FINALLY decided on a fabric for the curtains in the breakfast nook! I tried for a solid month to get the original black and white buffalo check plans to work but this little island cottage was not having it. I’m hoping to share more with you next week.

Well, you know how one thing leads to another? That meant I had to repaint the hutch in the breakfast nook too.

While I was out searching for fabric I took a peek at the fall decorations in the craft stores right now. It seems like there’s going to be a wide range from a French Country style to a traditional autumn harvest feel this year.

This cutie was diagnosed with a neurological disorder this week. We have him on seizure meds twice a day now so hopefully they will help make him feel better soon. He’s almost 16 and it breaks my heart to see him suffer for even a minute.

Quote of the week & Free Printable…

Reading this week…

RUN to the bookstore or order it here on Amazon! This book is SO good. It’s all I can do to not plow through each chapter. I’ll probably immediately re-read it just to make sure I didn’t miss anything ha ha.

Listening to this week…

I sent this podcast episode to all of my friends, it was that fantastic. While it might be geared toward business ladies I still think there are nuggets in there that anyone can benefit from especially if you’re in a leadership position of any kind or you want to sharpen your communication skills.

A few of our favorite posts from around the web this week…

Jenny from The Evolution of Style goes to a model home show each year called Homearama and then features photos from each home during the week on her blog. There’s a lot of inspiration both indoors and out from these posts so be sure to check them out!

Wait until you see the exterior of the first house, it’s over 6, 000 square feet and totally gorgeous.

I hope you all have a peace filled and happy weekend. We have a great week coming up next week. I’m shopping, “The Loop” and going to an estate sale with my mom today so fingers crossed we find what we need to complete the breakfast nook.

I have a piece of artwork that would be ok but there’s something about it that throwing me off just a bit. I think it might be too dark for the space. Anyway, it’s on my goals list to finish it, share it and then move on to painting the entry so I really need to get it done.

Whatever you have planned I hope it’s something you’re excited about too. I can’t wait to see you back here on Monday. Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,
CoCo

  3. I’m happy you’re bringing this series back Coco, I ‘ve really missed it. I can’t believe we’re already into August and it will be time to get the girls ready for school soon. It’s wild. I’m going to try the Thursday night schedule and see if I can that “three-day weekend feeling too.” Thanks, Sarah

    1. Thanks so much for your sweet words, Sarah! I think the biggest reason I love kicking off our weekends on Thursday nights is because it takes the pressure off of having to get groceries and run errands, you know stuff like that, because it’s already done. It’s been a big time saver for us. Let me know how it works out for you. Hugs, CoCo
