Quick and Easy Pearl Earrings

We’re sharing how to craft quick and easy pearl earrings today!

I don’t know if it’s the time of year or my current season of life, but I’ve been feeling nostalgic about my childhood lately.

While my Dad was off building a storied and public facing career, my Mom was teaching first grade during the week and creating memorable moments for us on the weekends.

For as long as I can remember, my Mom has been into shiny and sparkly things.

Throughout the year as she and my Dad attended a variety of events, she let my sisters and I help her pick out ball gowns and fancy dresses.

After the event, my Mom let us wear them around the house and use them to play dress up for tea parties, as costumes for plays, and as “opera dresses” for living room concerts even though the dresses were much too big for us.

On our dress up days, she let us have the “full effect” complete with big hair, makeup, perfume, heels, and plenty of shiny sparkly jewelry.

While our tastes have certainly changed over the years, thinking about spending a lazy Saturday gathered around the table in ball gowns and baubles drinking tea from tiny teacups while eating finger sandwiches and cookies still fills me with delight.

This year our family is prioritizing experience gifts over store bought or handmade gifts.

But I wanted to surprise my Mom and sisters with a little something nostalgic to help commemorate the day.

So, I decided to make quick and easy pearl earrings.

Here’s a look at how I made them in case you need a budget friendly gift idea, to craft something small that will travel well or are feeling sentimental too.

  • Flat Back Pearl Buttons (this is the kit I purchased from Amazon. 2 of the buttons came with shanks. So, I couldn’t use them because they were not flat; Consequently, I almost ordered these too)
  • Hypoallergenic Earrings (this is the kit I used from Amazon)
  • Glue Adhesive (B7000 was included in the kit I purchased. But I wanted to share the link in case you decide not to buy an entire earring kit)

Quick and Easy Pearl Earring Steps:

Gather your quick and easy pearl earring supplies and make sure your worksurface has been properly prepped.

As I mentioned above, the B7000 was included in the earring kit.

Be sure to read all the instructions on the back of your glue adhesive and take any necessary precautions and care.

Place glue adhesive on the flat part of the earring post.

You want enough glue to make your quick and easy pearl earring secure, but not to much that the glue could come in contact with your ears.

This was the first time I’ve ever used B7000.

So, I’m very curious to see how it holds up over time.

Lightly press your pearl embellishment into the flat part of your earring post until it’s secure.

Allow your quick and easy pearl earrings to dry at least 24 hours before using them.

Waiting 24 house is key.

I tried a pair on after about 6 hours and wound up having to glue the posts and the embellishments again!

Things to Keep in Mind…

Since this is the first time I’ve tried making earrings, I wanted to share a few things I learned along the way in case you’re a newbie too.

First, several of the embellishments were simply too big or too heavy to craft quick and easy pearl earrings.

In fact, the petal flower earrings I made wouldn’t stay in my ears even with magic back earring backs because the size was just too large.

Next time, I’ll know to stick with an embellishment that’s the size of a stud or only slightly larger because they seem to work best.

Second, in my honest opinion, the backs that came with this earring kit weren’t easy to get on and off.

Especially, once the earings are in your ear.

Next time, I would find a single flat back earring set with a standard size back and add the embellishments without using an earring kit.

Finally, these quick and easy pearl earrings are fashion earrings and may not be appropriate for all ears.

So, be sure to read the materials list and ingredients before gifting.

All in all, these quick and easy pearl earrings were fun to make, and I learned a lot along the way.

Keep in mind, you don’t have to craft earrings with pearl embellishments like these.

You could also make mitten ornaments, napkin rings, brooches or headbands too!

  4. These are stunning CoCo. I am so glad I read all of your opinions on creating earrings. I love the large petals, but now I know that is not a good option. I wish I could wear earrings again so I could make a slew of them. I do enjoy a good brooch though, so you have sparked some inspiration this way. 🙂 Hope you are enjoying the holiday season, I am sharing this idea with my mom so she can see them too. I think she will love them!
