DIY Stenciled Bee Pillow
We’re sharing how to make a DIY Stenciled Bee Pillow today!
Now that we’ve started the 52 Weeks to a Simplified and Organized Home Challenge, I’ve been spending a lot of time lately decluttering and clearing out the things that no longer serve us well.
It’s been a tedious process at times.
But it’s also helped to breathe fresh energy into the life of our home which feels so good.

One of the easiest ways to extend the life of items you’ve accumulated over the years is to use them for more than one purpose or idea.
Since I had previously used a craft stencil to create a DIY Stenciled Bee Tray I thought it would be fun to try that same stencil on a pillow.
Especially since we’re working on a budget friendly bedroom refresh this year.
Thankfully, the process couldn’t have been easier.

- Pillow Cover (We used this pillow cover in linen and they’re so pretty. I wish they made a 20×20 too)
- Fabric Paint (I made a custom color similar to the color graphite)
- Bee Stencil (We found this one at Joanns)
- Thick Cardboard or Foam
- Measuring Tape
- Painters Tape
- Stencil Brush
- Paper Towel (Lint-Free towels are best if you can find them because you’ll need to blot off the excess paint)
- Fine Grit Sandpaper (We used 220-grit)
DIY Bee Stencil Steps:
Gather your DIY bee stencil pillow supplies and make sure your work surface is free from dirt and debris.
Insert a piece of thick cardboard or foam into your pillow cover.
This will help protect the paint from seeping through both sides of your pillow cover.

Next, place your bee stencil in the center of your pillow cover.
Then use a tape measure to make sure the sides are even and straight.
Just a heads up, I totally forgot to allow extra room for the honeycomb bottom and my stencil wound up being a little higher than I wanted.
So, keep that in mind if you have an additional pattern on the bottom of your stencil too.
You might have to move it down just a bit.

Secure the bee stencil in place with painters’ tape.

Dip your stencil brush into your craft paint.
Next, brush off any excess craft paint onto a lint free paper towel.

Before you begin stenciling, make sure your stencil is completely flat and has been properly secured.
You don’t want the stencil to lift as you’re brushing the paint on.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it’s easier to add additional paint with a fine detail art brush than to have globs of paint seeping through the lines of your stencil.

Allow the paint from your stencil to dry completely.
Then carefully lift the stencil off the pillow cover.

If your stencil feels scratchy, you can lightly sand it with fine grit sandpaper.

This will also help to give your DIY stenciled pillow cover a patinaed or vintage feel.
Just be careful you don’t take off too much paint in the process.

Finally, add your pillow insert into your pillow cover and your DIY stenciled bee pillow is ready to go!

Things to Keep in Mind…
If you spill something on your DIY stenciled bee pillow cover, it’s best to spot treat it.

Many blessings,
CoCo
This pillow is so pretty! I’m intrigued. Although I have never stenciled a pillow, I want to try it now. Thanks for the inspiration!
First, I am in LOVE with that teacup and saucer CoCo! Beautiful and reminds me of my grandmother. Now, your bee pillow is adorable. You always come up with the darndest ideas, and this one is too cute. I do like to stenciling onto fabric too, I like how it can give an item you already own a new look. Happy new Year, hope you are doing well.
